Well, at the risk of sounding like a hater, not leading the lead in walks or HRs allowed would help.

How's he trending though? That's what's important during the development years of any player. Not how that player has done over the course of the entire season, but how they're trending and whether they're getting better. Has that FIP been going down over the last 10-15 starts, for instance?

Who knows. That cake's not baked long enough to tell. I know this: he's a high contact guy and seems to have good K/zone awareness. Too many unknowns beyond that. His power numbers playing in GASP should be greatly improved not to mention he should fill out going forward. I think his range might be his biggest deficit but again, we've not seen enough.

I think his range might be his biggest deficit but again, we've not seen enough.
He's got to show it but I think he can do it. It's a bit silly to me how it was pretty well-documented that he was moved to 2B because the Braves were fast-tracking him and had Andrelton Simmons in place, and now it's been retconned to "He wasn't able to hack it at SS."

I was eerily calm when he when down 0-2 in that AB. He was going to put it in play.

To be fair, my observance of his range is mainly clouded by his very few games he played at 2nd for the reds and he didn't look good in that limited sample size to me. Since he's played SS I've not seen him do anything poorly/slow/etc. I like the kid, more good OBP/low K guys are needed desperately.

What's exciting is, seemingly, at least a few are on the way. And if Billy's turned a corner here in the 2nd half...

Man, at the beginning of this summer I wouldn’t have watched a baseball game start to finish hardly ever. Now, my last Friday night before school starts and I’m inside watching the Reds play in extra innings in a meaningless game. The Reds and baseball has certainly grown on me, can’t wait until the team is contending again.

Want to know what pitchers(at least one) think when a position player comes to the mound and tells them to throw strikes/relax/etc?
What the hell do you know, get back to your position. Source? me.

Same here. In fact I am going to go to two games next week in Cincy. Very odd for me to do given the long drive and the season is meaningless.

Not really. Bang-bang play. Had to give it a shot. Just a really good break on the ball and slide by the runner.

I mean he was safe by .1 second, hardly silly.

It didn't work out but sometimes you make the wrong choice on a bang bang play.

I'll take the chance w/ him over anyone else on this team. He ain't perfect, but he's been pretty close since coming back from injury. He's just a smidge off tonight. It'll be good for him going forward, everyone needs a bit of struggle, this MLB stuff is hard.

You risk giving them an extra out.

You risk losing the lead.

I just didn't get calling BP "really silly".

There's times you don't. But if you have a 50/50 shot at preserving a win, you take it.

BP made the right play.

MLB players just don't allow the tying run to score if there's a play. Even a tough play.

Banshee

I didn't think he had a shot when it came off the bat. Of course I didn't know that BP was going to barehand it and fire a strike either. He's lost a step, but still pretty darned good if he gets to a ball. Tough choice.

The bullpen failed tonight. Iggy gave up a run to a horrible team and Wood simply threw the ball at the ground for the winning pitch. Strange. Then he throws the ball in the air and walks off like nothing happened. Finnegan was simply amazing though. He has improved so much.

He’s a cheap bullpen arm on a clear rebuilding team that has some remaining club control.

Doesn't that fit our Cin Reds to a T? I'd love for our pen to improve so much in 2017 that we can't use Wood but we first need to rid ourselves of Ohlendorf, Jumbo and others before we get to Wood. In fact in our current 'pen, after Iggy and Lorenzen, my third option would be a tie between Cingrani and Wood. Everyone else ranks below them. I don't know if we can find that many replacements in one off season.

90% of this board has been asking why is Price using Cingrani in high leverage situations while Wood has been doing great up until last night. I think you have those 2 confused.
