Peraza immediately singles up the middle to start the game against Jarred Cosart, but then Cozart GIDP.

Nice catch by Duvall to save Garrett from a lead off hit

Two out walk to Wil Myers after being ahead 0-2, the last two pitches were close though.

Schebler with a one-out bunt single and Jennings with a very nice sharp double to the gap to score him.

Christian Walker with a double of his own to tie it up 2-2

"Ball 4" on Wil Myers.

Lot of contact for the Padres, lead off single and a single up the middle off Peraza's glove to make it first and third with no outs

Sac Bunt and a sac fly make it 3-2 Padres.

2 innings, 4 hits, 1 walk, 0 strikeouts, 3 earned runs so far for The Big Dog.

When schebler gets a hold of a ball, it is a sight.

Robert Stephenson takes over in the bottom of the 6th inning. So far his fastball has touched 94.7 - he walked Spangenberg on five pitches then struck Erick Aybar out on three pitches. He's throwing a lot of changeups.

Another strikeout on the changeup. It appears he's working on the change today.

Line out to CF to end the inning. Five consecutive fastballs that touched 94/95. He struggled a bit with his fastball command.

San Diego talking heads calling Winker -- Winkler -- including a "Happy Days" riff --- sigh

Stephenson gives up a long - and I mean long home run

Despite the HR, RobSteve looking pretty solid.

Patrick Kivlehan with a solo HR of his own, his hot spring continues.

Kivlehan goes yard to dead center == he's pushing hard for a spot on O.D.

Is it just me or has Kivlihan played in every game including both games in split squad action? I'm not mad, it just seems like I'm seeing his name ALL the time.

had to look -- 18 games -- 35 AB -- only Peraza has more AB's

Stephenson works around a one-out double with a pair of strikeouts in his third inning of work. Looking good.

Nice to see Winker homer!

Stephenson with a solid line of 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 4 K, 43 pitches/28 strikes. Will he pitch a fourth inning?

Tom Servo

Stephenson gonna finish it out, gets a quick first out

Blash with a loooooong single

Another strikeout by Stephenson on his changeup.

Three plus pitches. Just throw strikes, my man.

4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 5 K for Stephenson. It's safe to say he's still in the rotation mix.

38 of his 54 pitches were for strikes.

Reds win. Garrett had to face more of the Padres starters but Stephenson easily had the better performance. Good effort all around.

Any clue where robsteve velocity been at in these games?

Maybe this competition is going to be good for Robert.

I mean this is the first time he is really staring down the barrel of irrelevance if he doesn't kick it into gear soon. Don't parse that statement too much but it's good for some people.

What exactly are those 3 pitches, does anyone know? I watched his outing yesterday, and it was clearly fastball and something like a splitter/changeup. But w/out velo readings I could not parse that downward breaking pitch into 2 different pitches. Whatever it is, it's an excellent pitch -- I'd say the best secondary pitch that any of the young guys have, including Reed's slider.

He may have thrown a curve or two, I can't remember. I believe the curve used to be a highly rated pitch of his. All but disappeared yesterday.

It's a change using a splitter grip IIRC. He used the pitch in high school but the Reds forced him to scrap it after he was drafted.

Didn't Norm Charlton throw something similar? They likened it to a fork ball, but it wasn't exactly that.
