Figure I'll catch Reds/Cubs while I work on computer. Adelman starting.

Hamilton grounds to 2b on first pitch. Alcantara flies lazily to RF. Votto slices single to LF. Suarez dribbles to 3b and is thrown out to end inning.

For a goof the Cubs are hitting Rizzo leadoff and he takes Adelman deep on the first pitch. It was crushed. Bryant slices double to RF. Adleman not making a case for ML roster. Schwarber walks and is taken out of game?

Almora then takes Adelman deep to LF. 4-0 Cubs and no one out.

Adelman gets first out on liner to IF, and then a double to RCF. Then next guy slices double to LF. 5-0. Visit to the mound. Discussing career options after baseball.

Adelman jams the next guy who hits dribbler for infield single. PItcher up. No one warming in bullpen.

The pitcher flares on to right and it's too tough a catch for Winker. 6-0.

Rizzo than K's. 2 out. Bryant pops to shallow center. 3 out. Adleman had been unhittable the second time thru order.

Adleman gave up a HR on the first pitch. Kris Bryant doubles on a full count. Now a walk to Schwarber.

Reds vs. Cubs games are gonna be a blood bath again this year.

Good lord. Three run HR for Almora.

4 runs and no outs for Adleman.

In better news, Peraza homered off Drew Smyly in the Seattle game.

Two more doubles after a lineout and it's 5-0 Cubs. A broken bat infield hit and a flare by the pitcher and they've batted around to make it 6-0.

Adleman's spring ERA was at 10.66 BEFORE this game. Right now it's 14.54. Good candidate for an outright.

I know he's just marking time until the younger / better / pitchers arrive but Adleman has got to be the bottom of the barrel right now... FO = please look under some more rocks...

40 pitch inning for Adleman. 6-0 Cubs after one.

There will be guys that are DFA'd this week. In reality, they should only claim someone with upside (Like Straily last year).

I don't think it'll matter. With Bronson making the team, the last spot is either Stephenson or Adleman. If it's Adleman he will only be in the rotation until Stephenson, Garrett or Romano replaces him.

Winker homers to RCF to lead off second.

Good. If he makes the team his job will be to go out there and get his brains beat in while eating innings.

Obnoxious Cubs fans in Vegas taunting Votto. He singled anyway.

Double for Winker to go with his HR. Will be very interesting to see what happens if he and Ervin light it up in Louisville and Duvall and Schbler perform at about their 2016 level.

If that happens, you gotta put the OBP in the everyday lineup, and leave the power on the bench for when it's needed. Seems like a good problem to have.

Is Ervin strictly a corner OF at this point?

Wondered this myself, he still plays some center but mostly starts in the corners the last two years. I think he'd at least be a more viable CF option than Schebler

You could hear Joey on the broadcast say "You're lucky there are kids around" and "Let's talk after the game". Love it

Rookie's line: 4.2 innings, 6 hits, 5 runs, 3 earned runs, 1 walk, 7 strikeouts. Big damage was a two run HR, errors abound. But I love that BB/K ratio.

I could get excited about Winker-Hamilton-Schebler with Ervin as 4th OF if Ervin can prove himself a bit at AAA. Could turn into a nice little problem.

I've been listening, and he's had some really rough defense behind him. The inning with the 2 unearned runs, he took it upon himself to finally just strike out the last batter rather than watch his defense self-destruct. Sounds like he's handled the adversity quite well today, all things considered.

Yes, its only ST, yes, I've had a few Sunday night Scotland pints, but that power that everyone said had disappeared sure seems to be coming back.

If I'm being honest, I'd go with Rookie in the starting rotation purely because IMO we've got the least to lose with him. All the others I feel we have so much hope for but with Rookie is 'we expect him to be OK, but if he's bad, no one will be surprised'

Winker to the track but barely stayed in the yard.

I can go either way on it. I think he's close to ready, but could use some more seasoning in AAA. But we do need a starter now and he's not a bad "learning on the job" candidate.

I agree, in no way am I saying he is an OD starter, but I think he is proving people that were using his power as excuse for not calling him up, wrong.

Duvall performed at an All Star level last year. He hit more HRs/RBI than Mike Trout. If he does that again he's fine. If he drops from those levels is where he's vulnerable. He'd best get off to a good start.

ScotlandRed

Without looking at stats, he performed at AS level first half, second half he was bang average (could be wrong). He shouldn't be blocking any of our top prospects coming to the majors if they're playing well.

Comparing Duvall to Trout is unfair to both of them.

Not sure how this lead into a Duvall debate, but Chris Carter led the NL in homers last year and only found a job in mid-February for $3.5 million. Cheap power has value, but the ideal is that you have more well-rounded guy getting 600 PAs.

When I last checked in on the Cubs game, it was 10-2 Chicago. It's now 17-3. Poor Sandy Lugo is now sporting a 2189 spring ERA.

Carter is a butcher in the field (-16 UZR last year) while Duvall is a plus fielder (+4 UZR) last year. Duvall is well rounded, while Carter is a one trick pony, hence the little interest in him. I'm guessing if Duvall was a free agent this off season, he'd get at least a $50M deal.

The point is very few players had more HRs and RBI than Duvall. Only two in the NL did. That's not the kind of guy who's earned a spot on the bench. I agree it's very questionable whether he can repeat such a year but if he does...
