Are they going to call pitches from the bench? I'm not sure Rookie Turner and Rookie Rookie should be making those decisions on their own.

This is the weather for today. Should get it in but it is going to really windy this afternoon

Showers likely, mainly after 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 45. Breezy, with a west wind 17 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Thanks just saw that on Twiitter. The Nats were the last MLB to have done this, Sep 4, 2008.

The Nats battery was the great combo of Montz and Martis.

Would rather see Price getting his full roster involved -- day after night, right out of spring training. Gennett and/or Alcantara should be in there today, IMO. Price has too much Dusty Baker in him in this regard, I think.

I think Dusty liked to get his favorite bench guys involved TOO much if anything, but I agree there wouldn't be any harm in giving a regular a day off. I'm seeing a lot of other teams do it.

Who are they going to be in there for? The reason we traded Phillips and Frazier is so we could see what Peraza and Suarez can do on a daily basis. I'm not saying they have to play 162 games but they should wait a bit before giving them a day off. Believe me, there will be plenty of days in June, July and August where they can literally cool their heels while others play in 90+ temperatures.

We would be in a tight race playing the rubber match against the Cardinals and sure enough Dusty trots out a lineup with Bruce, Phillips, Cozart, and Frazier on the bench. It was clockwork. I am actually glad to not see that kind of lineup today.

Heck of an inning there by Wandy Peralta. Showed three very good pitches, threw strikes. #Reds could use a lot of that this year.

Wandy Peralta has always thrown hard (up to 98), but was mostly a FB/CH guy, which meant he would struggle with lefties. Slider helps there

This play happens in less then 2 or 3 seconds. He see's the ball hit hard on the ground and takes off and then a man covering second. At no point there would a baserunning look over at the third base coach.

Glancing at third base coach would take less than 0.1 of a second. And it would have given the Reds a run.

I get that it was a hard hit ball, but the fact that it was hit hard made it very unlikely that the base runner would be able to "break up the DP". Especially important in that situation to know if he needed to slow down to allow the run to score.

Understand what you're saying, but nobody in the history of the game has ever looked at the third-base coach in that situation. The only exception to what he did would be instinctively pulling up, and like others have said, nobody's realistically doing that on a ball hit behind them because they don't know if it's been cleanly fielded or bobbled or if the guy is going to make an accurate throw to second.

It just is what it is.
