According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Arroyo's gap of 3 years, 192 days between games for the Reds will be the longest for any player since Chris Hammond had a gap of 13 years, 184 days from 1992 to 2006.

Giving Hamilton the day off with Arroyo on the mound is puzzling to say the least. Alcantara needs playing time but maybe he could have played second instead. You don't need to work all bench players in to one game Bryan, lol.

I get giving Hamilton and Peraza a breather, but Kivlehan (.236/.290/.353 against righties last year in AAA) over Schebler against a righty doesn't add up to me.

Give em hell Bronson.

With Arroyo pitching, wouldn't it make sense to play your best defensive outfield? I'm glad to see Alcantara starting, but play him at 2B and put Hamilton and Schebler in the lineup.

Everyone knows I don't think that Bronson should be anywhere near the active roster. That being said, purely as a fan I'm actually pretty excited about it as a one day thing.

I can't imagine Arroyo not retiring if his ERA is Simonesque after a few starts.

If it's a few starts, if he feels good, you don't think he's going to want time to build up arm strength?

A little harsh, it's not like he gave up 10 runs in an inning. I've seen worse outings from Reds pitchers, let alone big league pitchers.

I imagine he'll make at least one start at GABP.

For sure. And they will draw a good crowd. And the beat writers will get good interviews. And everyone will call him Bronson, he's a beloved former Reds star.

Look, the Reds have a right to do this, rebuilding is tough on fans. It's a good story, fans love him, and the Reds need some stop gap veterans.

But it's not a situation likely to add wins to the team or to provide many outings that go deep into games.
