Big test for Amir tonight. First two games were in pitcher friendly ballparks against offenses that were struggling. Gave up some hard hit balls that found leather. This is in GABP on a hot day, facing a big time lineup. Would really like to see him use that changeup tonight to K some people.

Agreed. Plus the Os are chalk full of righties minus Davis.
The Os hurler has been struggling and the Reds need to jump him early just like last nite to give the kid some breathing room.
To me the 1st inn is the most important inn in a baseball game even more than the 9th because it often sets the tone of the entire game. I would venture to say more games are won and lost in the initial frames than any other time.

One of those games where Reds have to overcome the opponent and the ball-strike calls.

Not only does the ump have a wide zone, but the O's catcher is pretty good at pulling the glove in for a strike call.

Maybe maybe not. Last year he was bad, but just two years ago he had a 4 ERA and struck out 168 in 184 innings. Really don't agree this is something to be ashamed of. In any event, every team is going to have bad nights where they're just not hitting regardless of who's on the mound.

He's barely hitting 90 on the gun but I agree. It's not like he's a guy who's never had any success. He's just been so bad this year. It's hard to believe he could be this good. I'm sure orioles fans would feel the same way.

They better not call him out at second. I think theses plays are crazy unless the guy slides straight by or something. It's just cheap.

You're either in contact with the base or you aren't

It seems like year in and year out, The Reds have always had a penchant for taking a struggling pitcher and turning him into Cy Young.

Cardinal fans were probably saying the same thing when they got shut down by Scott Feldman.

This is awful. I don't care what success Ubaldo has had in the past. 2 hits off this guy in 7 innings is inexcusable. He won't come close to numbers like that the rest of the season.

Don't care if you're the 27 Yankees or 76 Reds - there are gonna be nights you don't hit as a team. My takeaway is that Garrett is no mirage and neither is this bullpen. All the Reds need is to solidify the rest of the rotation and this season will be fun. How well they can do that will tell the tale.

Don't know when those numbers are from but Scott hasn't proven he can keep it up consistently. Had an encouraging end to last season but I just don't see him as starter material. Would love to be wrong.

Huge game for Amir. This is better than the Reds winning 10-8 and having him get hit around. Now just give me Reed dealing and I'll believe in 2018. I would love 2 left handed studs to build the rotation on.

Well sure, and that's why he isn't here anymore. The good news is his replacement has put up about the same rate stats so far in his career so maybe Reds fans can give him more than two weeks to get on track.

I'm not saying bench the guy but my opinion is once winker is ready that he will be a good 4th outfielder. He'll get plenty of AB's still. Winker just passes the eye test way more as a hitter. Schebler is better in the other facets of the game however. Pretty much the definition of a 4th outfielder.

He has a 762 OPS in 300+ major league PA's.

Somehow doesn't pass the eye test

I give him credit for going down after his horrible start and playing well. I think he's passable. Never said he didn't pass the eye test. Just that winker looks better to me. Could be wrong for sure. It happened this one time. :p

Not just directed at you. The amount of criticism he gets from Reds fans, on here, twitter, and FB, kind of astounds me.

I'd blame it on the slow start, but it's been going on since he was acquired

Yeah, I think it has something to do with being in the Frazier trade and now replacing Bruce. 2 fan favorites. Especially casual fans. I just want the best players out there myself. Maybe he is a slow starter like Votto. I think he deserves at least 2 months to get on track after his finish last year then maybe Winker gets his shot if Scott hasn't come around. Good problem to have.

Great game again by Garrett! He just didn't get any help from his friends. You hate to put the ace title on a rookie but if this keeps up we are going to have to. Also the Reds don't have anyone close to this good. Watching the Reds every fifth day is going to be must viewing this season.

Jimenez seems to either blow hot or cold. Not much in between on him. Reds were just unfortunate to catch him on a good day.

It could be the dumbing down of the casual fanbase due to listening to the Reds on radio.

Ya gotta remember those other guys are bein' paid to win games too.

Jn most cases they're bein' paid a helluva lot more.
I don't think the Reds have anything to be ashamed of.
