Scott Schebler in CF, eh? I'll be interested to see how that pans out.

On a side note - Get your comments in early today, fellas. I'm locking this thread around the 4th inning. :p

Bourgeois Zee

Having Gennett as a bench bat has really paid dividends, IMO. If he can play the corner OF spots well, his bat absolutely plays as a fourth OF. (Assuming he's the 100 OPS+ hitter B-R professes him to be.)

His versatility allows the Reds to play short-handed.

I'd prefer to see the Reds grab a corner utility guy (3B, 1B, LF, RF) who could do the same, but Gennett has already been worth the larger salary, IMO.

Ironman92
04-22-2017, 11:40 AM
Peraza should be an easy 4 outs

Let's make sure Schebler gets enough AB

Guessing Billy is lightly injured.

Reds are currently the 2nd wild card team

Schebler in CF and Gennett in RF. That's some quality outfield defense behind Reed.

Why not stick Ervin in CF?

Tony Cloninger

Why not stick Ervin in CF?

Exactly. Let's make things more difficult and put players in positions to not succeed. Price does the most obvious things wrong. Once the bench was set it seems any player who comes up even if it's a better option to use is buried by this manager. Last night in RF you could have put him out there instead of Cesar Hernandez the 2nd. (See April/May 1993 for point of reference).

Thom has to get in "Middletown Native" every time he says Kyle Schwarber's name, doesn't he? Every time.

4 pitch walk to Schwarber starts things off.

Settle down, Cody!

Ball 5 is a wild pitch and moves the fleet footed Schwarber to second base.

It's clearly a mental thing with Reed.

Dude dominates for 8 innings of relief and then coughs up 3 runs in 3 batters in his first start. What the heck.

Tom Servo

Maybe Cody is a reliever. I don't know man, he looked so good in the minors. But so far it simply isn't working in the bigs.

Too bad Stephenson was used in extra innings last night, would have been good to have him available to pitch several innings instead of maybe one or two.

So that inning went exactly as badly as I feared it could.

Maybe the Reds can crush Arrieta though with all the Reds batters raising their batting stats, that would make me feel slightly better.

Maybe Cody is a reliever. I don't know man, he looked so good in the minors. But so far it simply isn't working in the bigs.

He reminds me of Vince "Intercepter"Testiverde. If he started as QB his 10 cent brain overloaded and he just sucked. Bring him of the bench and he was great. "Wild Bill" Cody Reed stinks when he thinks about the game in advance. I was like that at the foul line in High School BB, as a sophomore, every time on the line I threw a brick. Yet I could make 50 in a row warming up and in practice. I learned to relax and junior and senior year, if I was on the court I shot the technical free throws.

I can understand that but his psyche must be as fragile as a feather if he goes from how he pitched in the bullpen to this. It happened to Tom Hume in 1977 with terrible starts and then into 1978 after 3-0 he was not as bad as Reed but could barely go 6 at a time where a starter went 7 or he was no longer a starter. He went to the bullpen after that and never came back.

I was hoping not. At this rate all this great potential starting pitching is not going to amount to much. I think after today he will go back to the pen and help there.
