I could understand Scooter over Ervin in the first lineup, but now Kivlehan? c'mon man.

OnBaseMachine
04-23-2017, 12:09 PM
Nice to see Kivlehan getting the start over Ervin.

Scooter, playing out of position yesterday in RF, played a routine flyball into a RBI triple for Arrieta. The rookie Ervin with all of his inexperience would have probably turned that into a 5-run inside-the-park HR.

No Ervin? Ok, I'm good on Price. He's an idiot. Time to move on.

Or just bring Winker back up and let him play every day

Kc61
04-23-2017, 12:28 PM
The guy the Reds should promote is neither Ervin nor Winker.

The guy they should promote is Elizalde and use him as a bench player who gets some chances.

He's hitting well, has a great batting eye, and has been playing some OF down there. Not a big shot draft choice, but could help the team as a reserve.

Reds likely want to clear Super Two with Ervin and Winker. Ervin could use the AAA success, he's had some rough seasons. Winker isn't tearing up AAA, .691 OPS, the Super Two date is fine.

When is that super two date? I'm excited to see if Winker can continue his walk/k ratio and get on base at the major league level. It would be nice to have someone else in the lineup whose obp doesn't live or die by their batting average.

Pretty much. Hard straight fastball. Easy for big leaguers to hit. Slider doesn't break enough. It's actually a perfect comparison.

I'd trust Cingrani late in games before Wood. No doubt in my mind.

Another walk by Suarez.
I remember a lot of people here said based on 2015 and 2016 that Suarez wouldn't walk, but his minor league numbers showed a hitter willing to take a walk and one who avoided excessive strikeouts (also in contrast to 2015/2016). It was only a matter of time before he got back to that level.

What Arroyo did today at 40 yrs old and after TJ surgery and multiple tears to his rotator cuff v the defending World Champions is one of the great Reds storylines of all time.

Plus, barring a remarkable Cubs rally will get the Reds over .500 at 10-9 and within 1/2 game of Chicago for first!

But, but I thought this team wasn't going to contend this yr.?!

Probably not, but for argument's sake look at the National League as a whole. The Dodgers should win the west. The Cubs will win the Central. The Nationals will probably win the East with the Mets taking a wild card spot. Who does that leave for the final WC spot? The Pirates and Cardinals have issues, as do the Marlins. The Giants look like non-contenders without Bumgarner. The Diamondbacks looks good early on, but do they have the pitching? That final spot is wide open.

Lose and we get swept by the Cubs and are reeling on a five game skid and 2.5 out in the division with Cubs running away with 5th straight win.
However, Reds prevail behind of all people Arroyo and get within a half game of first while snapping losing streak at 4 and snap Cubs winning streak at four.
