Kivlehan gives Schebler a break, and the Reds go extremely RH against Ty Blach, a southpaw with a slight split issue. Blach doesn't K anyone, and he walks around 10% of the RH hitters he faces. In the minors, he gave up about a hit per inning and sported a .262 BAA. He barely breaks 90 on his fastball but changes speeds well. Lots of slop (40% or so).

He's a bottom of the rotation guy, so he'll probably dominate the Red lineup.

435 career MLB PA's

258/326/466 792 OPS

109 OPS+

2017 line of 245/319/539 858

121 OPS+

That's not really playing much above his career numbers.

Still not much data...I think I and others jumped the gun on him a couple weeks ago, but I think we should all wait until probably the end of the season to declare anything definitive on him. I think this hot streak has given him the rest of the year to prove he belongs in 2018.

The guy does nothing but hit.

He hit in the minors and he is hitting in the majors.

There's plenty of data that he's probably going to keep hitting.

Just as soon as he's recalled from Louisville.

Couldn't agree more. No way he loses his starting spot anytime soon. Not with options in house, at least. The sample size of his minor league stats show that this hot streak is more of his overall package. Schebler has proven that he is a 7 run per game player where winker has only shown that once.

I didn't mean for it to be a knock on Winker, his on base skills are exactly what this team needs. But as this team is built right now that needs to come from the center fielder in the batting order.

The Reds have been hitting better against the better pitchers, and worse against the weaker pitchers. I don't get it, I actually prefer opponents pitch their better pitchers against us.

That's a Sunday Special lineup right there.

You need to look of Professor Kelby Tomlinson's picture on baseball-reference. His lifetime minor league numbers are less than inspiring, but I'm sure his lectures are awesome.

Gorkys Hernandez is swinging a lighter stick than Billy Hamilton.

The G-Men have two guys in their entire lineup with an OPS+ over 80.

Cubs DFAed Matt Szczur, he can hit a little AND play acceptable outfield defense. Could be worth a look.

He looks alright but I don't see how he is an upgrade over Kivlehan who hit better in the minors and plays first and third. They need that kind of versatility at the end of the bench if they are going to carry 3 catchers or 8 pitchers.

He might be worth a Claim and DFA yourself like I get away with in OOTP.

Great catch in gap against fence with bases loaded.....greatly exciting

steals 3rd....exciting

I'm not sure Kivlehan can actually play any of those positions, but you are right there re the minor league numbers, though Kivlehan got to play in some friendlier power environments.

I go back and forth on Kivlehan. Somedays I squint and can see a poor man's Hunter Pence and other days I see AAA stamped on his forehead.

I think based on the amount of time he has actually spent playing in the outfield his performance out there is to be expected, but he appears to be able to be someone who can sort of play 5 positions and possibly handle the bat to the tune of a 725ish OPS, so as a 25th man he has his virtues. He seems athletic so his outfield play should get at least nominally better. Count me as a fan, at least in comparison to some of the sure fire AAAA with no potential and over the hill types the Reds have historically populated their bench with in my lifetime.
