I am absolutely shocked Price is playing a bench player back to back days after he had a monster day the first game. Generally that means they ride the bench for a week or so.

Edit: apparently he's played in 4 games in a row now. Where have I been?

With Arroyo pitching St. Louis will be licking their chops at a golden opportunity for home run revenge. This might be a usuall reds game this season where we are behind going into the sixth inning but come out with a come back win.

A lot of people forget that Treviño was even with the Reds in 1990. The first week of September, Joe Oliver was nursing a minor groin injury, and Lou Piniella wanted a veteran to backup Jeff Reed until Oliver was ready to return. (September callup Glenn Sutko was the only other catcher on the roster.) So Bob Quinn claimed Treviño off waivers from the Mets. He only played sparingly, as Oliver quickly recovered, but Alex was a good pinch-hitter off the bench that last month. (If he had been eligible, I think he would have been added to the postseason roster instead of Terry Lee.)

I remember seeing a write up of him in the BA prospect list in like '89. Lee was 25 or 26 at the time and in AA, and in the write up, the BA writer was like "we normally wouldn't put a player like this on this list but the Reds' system is that bad." (Paraphrasing)

Yes. The Reds went with a nine-man pitching staff for the postseason (I believe Tim Layana was the pitcher they dropped off the roster), so they added Terry Lee as an extra bat off the bench. Billy Bates was then added as a replacement for the injured Bill Doran.

I think Schebler is gonna hit homers in bunches be streaky as a hitter and have nice numbers at end of the year. Pretty much like Duvall. I would trade one of the two or Winker. Wouldn't give them away though. It's nice to have 30 home run power from your corner OFers. I am a OBP guy. IMO you have to have at least 2-3 guys with high OBP in your lineup, but it's also nice to have a couple bashers mixed in as well.

Nobody is saying he will be a star.

Absolutely nothing wrong with him or his production thus far. Simply put, I have more faith in the abilities of Winker moving forward. One of Duvall or Schebler will have to go IMO to make room for Winker. I'd lean towards dealing Duvall currently because I think he'll get more of a return. To offset that is his versatility in being able to play 3rd as well. Tough call on that front.

Both guys are legit MLB players. But I can easily see both having BA's near the mendoza line just as easily as I see them where they are currently. It's not a knock on either's abilities...it's a ME problem. For some reason I'm having a tough time seeing either of them hit for enough of an average to suit me.

The instant offense of both will never be duplicated by Winker, plus both Duvall and Schebler are OBP'ing .322-325, and OPS-ing at over .800. If I trade anyone (I'm gonna get killed here), it's Hamilton. Why? He's a banjo hitter with blazing speed. He aggravates me with his bunting skills, something that would be a sure hit most of the time. Getting him on base is a must and yet, when he gets on base, wonderful things can happen, but his OBP is .305, points below either corner outfielder, and he is the expendable one IMHO. Probably would bring a better haul, too. JMO.
