Amazingly this team is still within 4 games.
However, it's clear that if Homer and Finnegan don't get here soon and produce that the Reds are going to fade into oblivion.

Zach Buchanan‏Verified account @ZachENQ 2m2 minutes ago

Idea is to give Billy two days in a row off, today and Thursday's off day. If that doesn't take care of it, I'm sure DL is on the table.

Zach Buchanan‏Verified account @ZachENQ 5m5 minutes ago

Hamilton's been fighting the thumb thing for a while, and it's affected his performance at the plate. Painful every time he makes contact.

Zach Buchanan‏Verified account @ZachENQ 5m5 minutes ago

Billy Hamilton and Zack Cozart both out of the lineup. Cozart dealing with same quad issue, Hamilton with thumb soreness.

That is not a strong lineup. If Garrett pitches like he did the first few games the reds have a chance, or Gennett can go for five home runs roday.

Okay one inning down, just hold them under three by the end of five, get the bullpen in, and I like our chances. That's the goal for our starters, just last five innings and hold them under three runs.

No way he passes Bench, but how high do you think Votto will climb if he plays out his entire contract as a Red? I think he passes Perez, but will he pass Robinson? I feel like that may be too high, but he has quite a few years left.

If he doesn't hit another home run the rest of this season, then he would have to average 25 a season for the remainder of his contract to catch Bench (and that's if the Reds don't pick up his option).

Bench is catchable. I don't know if Votto will do it, but it can be done.

Even with the competition at first base, I'd advise Votto not to make vacation plans for the All Star break.

Bench is catchable. I don't know if Votto will do it, but it can be done.I didn't realize he hit 29 homers each of the last two seasons, I thought it was just above 20. I figured with regression as he ages and just gets on base more instead of hitting for power he wouldn't have a chance to do it, but you're right, given the pace he's been hitting them he actually could catch him.

So I take it you think he'll pass Robinson with ease?

Yes. If Votto doesn't hit another homer for the rest of this season, then he would have to average only 14 a season for the rest of his contract to catch Robbie (and that's if the Reds don't pick up his option).

I think he catches Bench barring some major injury. Catch Bench or not IMO he is the best hitter in Reds history. Of course none of us was alive to have saw them all play. But I remember watching in 73 and from then till now he is the best for me.

And the team has been very forthcoming about what they are trying to do. They are trying to build a club that can make a long term run, but to do that you either have to carry a huge payroll, which isn't going to happen, or you have to build up the farm.

That takes a bit of time.

Temperatures are going up, which means frustration levels for many people are also going up, especially since the pitching part of the rebuild has not panned out so far, and it's starting to look more likely that 2018 is going to become another punt season as the Reds have to sort through and revamp the pitching staff.

And I would rather build from the farm than buy a good team for a few years. For years, we lacked everything. Several years ago, great pitching with no hitting. This year, good hitting and no pitching. The pieces can't seem to line up.

Yet there were some RedsZone members along with most of the media sayin' they'ed lose 100 games.

I'm not ashamed of'em. I love the offense and defense. The bullpen and bench players have been head and shoulders above what we had last year... Think what could have been if Disco, Bailey and Finnegan were in the rotation to open the season.

I predicted 83 wins because I liked the offense and defense and there was no way the bullpen would suck as much as it did last season, I didn't see that getting 5 or 6 innings would be such a problem..

I didn't predict number of games won. That would probably help me keep perspective over the season. To pick a number now, I probably saw them winning 95 games...staying above .500.

The Cards sweep made me hope the early season mojo was back and we'd see them be more consistent. The Padres series was cold water to the face. I know San Diego swept the Cubs last month but, yesterday, that didn't matter to me...we were just "bad" again.

I'm more sane today.
