How can you have only 31 AB's for an entire season on July 6?! Now I know he was on the DL for a while, but STILL! I've never heard of the like! He's been a drag on the roster all season! Thom needs to read up on his baseball history. Bill Plummer was on the 68 Cubs all season and had all of two at bats.

Great find. You would think that that would have happened to Plummer when he was Bench's backup.

Tom Lawless in 1987 played in 19 games all season, despite being on the roster all season, and then had 17 games in the postseason, where he had more hits, RBI and HR than in the regular season.

Plummer was a rule 5 pickup by the Cubs. It was terrible for Plummer as he wasted a year of development. My thinking is that Durocher didn't want him around and decided to never play him. Randy Hundley that year played in 160 games as the Cubs catcher. That is by far still a record. To boot the Cubs turned around and traded Plummer to the Reds after the season was over. I guess they didn't like how held down the bench for them that season.

Starting catchers back in those days didn't take a game off every four days. The only time Plummer played was like the second game of a doubleheader or something like that.

I'm surprised Infield Fly Rule wasn't called.

1st baseman wasn't anywhere near settled or gonna routinely catch that ball.

Joey was 2 feet of base, facing first and standing straight up right before ball drops, 2nd baseman was going towards ball, pitcher was backing up 3rd, catcher stayed home in case Gennett.

Votto should've been 20+ feet of the base at least in this scenario....could've jogged back if caught and if ready would've made it to 2nd.

So I imagine Sal is sent back after this game, no 5th starter needed until the 18th.....Reds bring an arm up or a bat for the 3 game set at Arizona?

I would add a bat, but I think the Reds will add a relief pitcher.

He was already warming up to pitch the last two before the Reds got 3 in the 8th. He hasn't pitched since the first so he was going to throw at least the 9th no matter what. Still interesting that they went ahead and threw him two innings.

Is it me or is the Demon's Head consistently throwing harder than he ever has? Physical maturity coming into play?

Several worthy candidates today...Adam Duvall, Eugenio Suarez, Scott Schebler...

But today's Joe Nuxhall Star of the Game is Sal Romano, who pitched 5 innings allowing 2 runs on 6 hits with 6 K's and only 1 BB to earn his first major-league win.

No, not with 3-4-5 due up for the Rocks.

LOL. Certainly wasn't stating a fact, simply said I wouldn't have minded it. Four innings of bullpen every game makes for a tired 'pen.

Spot on again Klu, given many choices, Joe would lean to the starting pitcher.

Joe may have been slightly biased, but he liked to reward young pitchers when they got their first big-league win.

This is a Young Ball Club, they will have their ups and downs.

Don't know about anyone else but I'm enjoying this season. I've been entertained and the future looks pretty bright.

Sometimes the growing pains can be frustrating but I think this team is fun to watch.

Very good for this team to split in Colorado. I was afraid they would be giving up massive amounts of runs. But the pitching held their own. Hopefully Romano works out and can give the Reds a dependable arm in the rotation.
