I'm not looking at any defensive metrics (I wouldn't understand them, anyway), but just by watching him (eyeball test) it seems to me that Scooter is average defensively at 2B, it's just that we are used to seeing above-average defense at 2B for a lot of years.

That's definitely gotta be part of it. Seems like when they go on the rod a lot of balls that are 10 rows deep at home wind up going for outs.

It's still not anywhere near as big of a problem as the starting rotation, but I've noticed the same thing.

The reason(s) to take him out has NOTHING to do w/ whether or not the rest of his outing is successful. It's about what's been mentioned: great outing, nothing bad can happen to health, psyche, team from him if yanked after an awesomely pitched game. As has been mentioned: he's not pitched hardly at all above A+ ball. His age/future/potential, in a dismal somewhat throwaway rebuilding year. Again, if he's 27, I'd get it if Price is pushing him to become a 9 inning guy, a playoff guy. Now's not that time. Price is not the answer despite the questions that the reds have imo.

We all know that Price believes you train starters by pitching them deep in games.

He believes a 5 2/3 inning pitcher remains a 5 2/3 inning pitcher.

In this case, the Reds have four off days coming up. My guess is that Castillo pitches again in 8 days. Lot of rest.

He threw 113 pitches. There is no rule that you stop at 100.
