Arizona's Patrick Corbin has already established his roll to a degree by going 2-2 with a 3.41 ERA over his last five starts. Corbin, who is 6-8 with a 4.81 ERA in 17 starts, has eight walks and 32 strikeouts over his last five starts that covered 29 innings.

Homer Bailey had two disastrous starts in his return from season-long rehab from Feb. 18 elbow surgery. But in Tuesday's 8-1 win over the Rockies, Bailey allowed one earned run and eight hits -- all singles -- over six innings and 99 pitches.

Reds catcher Tucker Barnhart and first baseman Joey Votto each lead the National League in fielding percentage at their respective positions.

Hope we see the same Bailey we saw last game. If so we have the makings of a fairly solid rotation for the second half.

1. Bailey
2. Castillo
3. Feldman
4. Romano
5. Adelman

I'm in favor of giving the AAA guys a shot until someone grabs the bull by the horns like Castillo has so far. Last time out Romano did too. I've give him more starts until he proves he's not ready. This would not prevent me from flipping Feldman if a nice offer presented itself.

I'm going to need to see really good Homer before I slate him atop the rotation. He definitely made strides last start.

Marty has decided that the Reds are nuts to think Peraza will ever be a SS. Brantley added that he hasn't shown that he can do it thus far, which of course is a more reasonable decision. You'd think after Suarez's defensive turnaround just a year ago that Marty would want to avoid making final judgments about 23 year olds.

What a great pitch sequence from Lorenzen to K goldy. That's good stuff.

Another really fine outing from Homer - in a really tough pitching environment. Glad he's back.

Finally with a competent pitching staff this looks like a decent team. However the hole might be too deep for them to dig out of. Even with a win today they will be nine games out going into the all star break.

He won't pitch until next Sunday

Thus were hearts gladdened as the scaled enemy was defeated by the skill and strength of the heroes under the red banner and the white wishbone rune and they held the fields of chase as the victors and outside there was a gnashing of teeth from the wolves who had thought our doughty nine had not the strength or will to claim the spoils of victory

4-3 after a trip to Colorado and Arizona, I sure didn't expect much....hats off to some quality Reds pitching...4 back of Chicago at the all star break. (How is it even possible with the putrid SP of this season.....Course maybe Lester tried his best to show us with 2/3 inning of 10 run baseball today.....LOL)

Today's Joe Nuxhall Star of the Game is Homer Bailey, who pitched 6⅔ innings allowing 1 run on 7 hits with 5 K's to get the win, and also was 2-for-3 with a double and a single.

Votto avoids any discussion of RBI's during the postgame interview with Jim Day. (He said he doesn't look for RBI's, but won't discuss it further because it's a "slippery slope".)

No doubt referring to Marty and THom.

The Reds radio broadcast went to hell when Joe Nuxhall was forced into retirement. I know he was getting older, and his performance had slipped a bit. But he was the bedrock, the foundation, the stabilizing influence in the booth.

They won three of four series vs the Brewers, Cubs, Rockies and Diamondbacks, and split the other. Not are we good again, but we're playing like a playoff team over the last four series. Fantastic momentum going into the break. Everyone can get a few days of rest and relaxation, while our All-Stars represent. Attendance at home should pick up.

Exciting stuff.

So, if it was last August the last time the Diamondbacks were shut out at home until tge REDS did it yesterday, then how long has it been since an opponent held them to just one run over a two-game span? I'm guessing at least two years. Impressive performances by Castillo and Bailey. Not a coincidence that Bailey was involved. This is why those who were patient with him were,...well,...patient.

It's a valid point that if Peraza is to be a regular SS, he *has* to turn the DP. It was the proverbial tailor-made and could have easily cost them the game.

But you make that point once and then move on. Ragging on him like a nagging old shrew does nobody favors.

Can't believe how many sports organizations over the years forced so many franchise faces, and that's what they are, and it's always for the same reason,...they spoke their opinions, organization be damned. The voice to the public is more beloved when it backs up the public. Company-men are nauseating to listen to.

Homer Bailey has a 1.42 ERA over his last two starts, both wins.
"The last two starts, he's been fantastic," Reds catcher Tucker Barnhart said. "I think the ball had a lot of velo today. In turn, his breaking balls were a lot sharper. He's getting closer and closer to Homer."

Duvall delivered a strike from left field to cut down Goldschmidt at the plate. It was Duvall's seventh assist of the season, which leads National League left fielders.

"To be honest with you, in that situation, I was a little surprised they sent him with how shallow the ball was in left," Barnhart said. "Duvie throws the ball as good or better than anybody in the outfield in the league. When he comes up to throw, they're usually around the plate. It gives us catchers a chance to put a good tag on them."
