Of all people, Chris O'Grady is starting for the Marlins, who you might remember for his brief stint with the Reds as a Rule 5 pick in 2016 spring training. He is a left handed, which shows Bryan Price is determined to learn the hard way about Scooter Gennett's limitations against them.

Somewhat surprised that Jose didn't get the start v the lefty tonight.

However,

.253 4 hrs 26 rbis Peraza
.308 16 hrs 54 rbis Gennett

I don't blame Price at all.

Those numbers are overwhelming.

It's not like scooter has ever hit lefties (even this year during his high performance). To me, he's a pure platoon guy. I'd probably never start scooter against them unless there was no viable alternative.

Btw the Peraza/scooter debate is probably more about the best course for perazas development than anything.

Looking at radar, it appears a front is moving through the area. Storms along the front have produced lightning and tornadoes. Better to hold off until the activity has passed, even if it isn't doing anything directly over GABP.

Dee Gordon singles and then steals 2nd and 3rd, which isn't ideal.

I want Thom to go out behind his garage and paint a 16"x8.5" square, which represents one quadrant of the strike zone. Then move 60'6" away from it and see how many times in a row he can hit it by throwing a baseball as hard as he possibly can.

Seems Reds' pitchers get a different zone to me, 96 times out of a hundred. OK, the team may still have ended up losing, but the outcomes could have been far less over-whelming. Just sitting here wondering.....didn't the Reds invest in analytics/ number crunchers? Seems like it was a big sell by Dick Williams.....if they did, then why start Scooter vs a LH starter ever? He hasn't ever hit them well, and in fact most of this site even agrees ( whether a Scooter fan or not....I Am a Big One) that he is most likely a platoon type 2B. I just scratch my head.....same as a few weeks ago he sits with a RHP on the mound against Arizona with 2 runners in scoring position as Peraza fails once again. Either make a commitment or don't.....

That being said, so is Peraza now sunk cost? Moving on from him, letting him sit the bench while Scooter tries to figure out lefties? I really don't get what is going on honestly. Scooter is a plain as day platoon type player......time to either adapt by the Reds or just continue to be a mediocre team.

Perhaps, that's not quite so egregious... although Iglesias has only been 25 for the last 90 days.

Even then... Lorenzen was great last year in relief and has had some nice stretches this year. But there have been enough games where he comes in as an absolute gas can that he's not someone who I think "we'll get out of this", at least not right now.

Now, maybe he'd be better suited as a starter. I don't know. I think if he's got any chance whatsoever to be a starter they should try it. It's not like this is 2012 and The Reds have five solid starting pitchers so they can afford to use a valuable asset in the bullpen.

Players can't always pick the ideal opportunity. Feldman is down, Reds are giving Stephenson the shot. It's not enougn for him to show some good things but allow five runs. Maybe not ideal timing for him, but he's hardly been rushed. He's had lots of AAA.

On the other hand, they didn't have to take him to 100 pitches tonight. 90 would have sufficed for his first outing. Game was tied, I think they pushed it with him.

The amount of time he's spent in AAA has nothing to do with it. You don't spend X amount of time in AAA and you're ready.

Anybody who has followed BobSteve in AAA could have told you he made real improvements with his control but was still giving up way too many HRs. In his last start in AAA, he allowed 9 hits and 5-6 runs to the 2nd worst hitting team in AAA.

I could give a **** about wins and losses at this point. Stephenson should have been starting in AAA tonight and continued to work. Woj or Jackson Stephens could have easily made the start tonight.

Instead, the Reds decided to throw Stephenson out there and just hope for the best. It's dumb.

And yes, an argument could be made he should have been out after 5, but that would fall on the manager who just got an endorsement form the GM last week.

Firstly, Iggy was presumably warming up in the likelihood the Reds tied the game or took the lead (which was likely), so he may as well pitch.

Secondly, Iggy doesn't need to be showcased, he's not a mystery and is pitching very well. If the Reds really wanted to trade him badly, better to not pitch him, as he's unlikely to increase his value as he's been lights out.
