Alcantara. But it's not about someone on the current team being a better option, it's about my long-running complaint that the Reds need someone who can actually play CF considering Billy's fragility instead of pretending guys like Brennan Boesch or Patrick Kivlehan can do it.

He often takes some really bad routes even when he does make a catch. I've seen him nearly outrun several balls. He's obviously athletic, but athleticism alone doesn't make you a good outfielder.

He was an infielder originally, a Duvall-like transition. If the Reds think Kiv can play the outfield, it's worth a try, I think he can be a valuable bench power hitter particularly against LHP.

I don't think he's a very good outfielder, but I still agree with this statement.

If he were a solid fielder AND had legit power, he'd be starter. In reality, he's a flawed but solid backup. Nothing wrong with that, could use another one or two.

Looking at Retrosheet the closest I found were:

Todd Redmond who pitched all of one game for them in 2012.

Billy Redmond whop played for the Reds in 1877 abd came to bat 12 times.

And Gary Redus although his last name is not pronounced as Red.

Red Lucas

Pretty decent pitcher in the 20's and 30's. Also was an outstanding hitter for a pitcher.

Career .300 hitter in eight seasons as a Red (293-for-977). In 1927, he also started three games at 2B, two games at SS, and one game in LF.

If I was Latino, I'd likely be in the top 50 with my zero.

As it is, my being Canadian likely makes me top 10 in Canadians?

Actually, I don't think you would make Top 75 for Latino/Hispanic players.

I'm not sure how many Canadians have played for the Reds, so you might make that one.

And now Geno!

Man, we had seats 20 rows behind visiting on deck circle but it was in sun and we sat everywhere in the park that was shaded....we moved to those prime seats in the bottom of the 7th and apparently brought the Reds all the good luck in the world. Scored 8 runs on 4 HR in that inning and a half.

Scooter GS off tough lefty.....Suarez ball was one of the 10 hardest hit ball I've seen in person....thought it had prayer of getting near truck off bat. Cozart mashed his. Votto was great to watch his facial expressions during pitching change and then up 6 runs he takes a bad swing and is growling at himself....then mashes a HR and had a big smile all around bases.

Glad I went!

I won't go to a day game unless my seats are on the first base side (in the shade).

The best part happened after I had to leave. I checked my phone when I got over to the subway station and saw the Reds had taken a 7-3 lead. I figured someone must have hit a grand slam. Scooter is having quite a year. As is most of the offense. Just those tricky little starting pitchers that messed things up.

nice

Just Sayin' Geno has been hittin' better and gettin' on base more than Scooter for the last month or so.
In no way did I mean to disrespect Scooter, just thinkin' about givin' the guy makin' less outs more AB's...
Playing the hotter hand so to speak.

Not even for a moment did Reds manager Bryan Price contemplate lifting Scooter Gennett for a right-handed pinch-hitter.

In the eighth inning with the bases loaded, two outs and the Reds trailing by one run on Thursday, the Padres had All-Star left-handed closer Brad Hand on the mound. Hand was riding a 24-inning streak without allowing a run and has filthy stuff. But Gennett hit the grand slam to right-center field that propelled the Reds to a 10-3 victory.

"You guys have probably seen I don't pinch-hit a lot for the regulars, unless there is an extended period of time where we see there's bad matchups," Price said. "I like the guys to be in those situations. He's been a big-time player for us. He's been a clutch guy for us. I felt, 'You know what? If he makes a mistake, he's going to get him.' And he did."

"He seems like the type of manager that if you're starting that day, he's going to roll with what he's got, which is great. Playing for a manager like that, it just gives you more confidence," Gennett said. "At the start of the year, I'd been in the habit of kind of peeking over my shoulder whenever they bring in that lefty, because the Brewers would usually take me out. I think that's why I struggled so much with the Brewers facing lefties, because I never really had the opportunity to."
