That's what happens when you get benched. Scooter had a grand slam yesterday. You bench him instead? "Oh, great job yesterday, Scooter. Remember when we said you won the 2nd base job? Not so much."

I thought the whole 'one guy is the starter the other is a bench player' thing was pretty dumb from the start. I'm not saying Gennett is the one who necessarily needs to sit, but Price was finding ABs for Kivlehan this week but now can't figure out how to get Peraza in there.

Cozart is on display for trade.

Gennett just hit game winning slam.

Everyone can't play every game.

Price didn't invent the nine man limit on a team.

If they trade Cozart, Peraza will get an opportunity again. Peraza had a nice series against a crappy team. I wasn't in favor of benching him to begin with but it happened. I'd rather see Suarez at 3rd, Duvall in left and Winker in right than Scooter at any of those spots.

They gave the error on the infield hit by Cozart to the second baseman Villar. I thought it should have been on the shortstop Arcia.

They have also now charged an error to Villar on the infield hit by Barnhart, allowing Winker to score. So no RBI for Barnhart.

I went to a Reds/Brewers game there back in 2003. Very enjoyable. Absolutely nothing around it back then (except for cow pastures). Lots of very large parking lots, and taxi cabs are lined up outside the front gate as soon as the game is over.

They just aren't a very good defensive team.

And you know that just grinds on Craig Counsell, who was such a FUNDAMENTALLY SOUND player at 2B! That has to be COMPLETELY unacceptable!
I have it on good authority that Counsell played in Arizona during Thom's tenure there, and that Thom has fond memories of those teams.

I get that it speeds up the game but it's just odd. I'm usually like "wait, the bases are loaded now? What'd I miss?!"

If baseball was really concerned about game length maybe they shouldn't juice the baseballs but hey, chicks dig the long ball.

Raisel Iglesias was no great shakes, either.

When he came in at the beginning of the eighth inning, I thought, "if you give us two shutdown innings, the Montgomery Inn gift card is yours!" But no, he had to make an adventure of it.

His inner Coco Cordero came out. Tonight's Yankee-Red Sox game saw Chapman walk the bases full and get out of it on a sacrifice fly double play (ignorant base running by the Sox) and got the final out, but he had nothing. Maybe it wasn't the closers' night.

He's already messed up Lorenzen. Not sure why a meaningless game in August when you're a trillion games under .500, is worth investing two innings of iglesias. These guys are not machines.

I thought the knock on Baker was that he totally went by the book with his closer. Never used him for more than one inning as I recall.

Girardi has often said that the number of pitches thrown by a closer in an appearance has an effect on their long term health. Its why he was willing but very conservative in using Mariano to get more than three outs. I suspect its why Dusty would so often go by the book and only use his closers for one inning.

In any event, whats the point of managing like its the 7th game of the world series when you're 18 games under .500 on 8/11/17. Isn't part of the point of "rebuilding" to insure that the stars you have now are healthy and around a few years from now?

Mutaman

And Rivera, who was w/o arm issues, only pitched more than 80 innings once in his career, even though his team was consistently in a pennant race. Why use Iglesias, who has had arm issues, that much in whats a throw away season?
