Hence my question about Ervin. If Ervin can play a decent CF then he should be getting some starts and Winker in RF. Reds need to see if these two can be of help next season and beyond.

Lefty hitters against Lester this season: .184/.212/.256/.468.

Righty hitters against Lester this season: .264/.330/.458/.788.

So an all RHH lineup against Lester, with the exception of Votto.

So you're saying a lefty pitcher gets left handed hitters out more than righties?

Winker needs at bats against LHPs as much as RHPs. His bat is expected to be an every day bat, not a platoon bat. Again, .370 OBP against LHPs last two seasons.

Most pitchers do not have splits like these, my friend. Lester is among the toughest on lefties in the league. So playing Winker against him would put the kid in a very difficult position.

In addition, this gives Ervin a chance to play. Which is what lots of people wanted.

And Feldman looks shaky with that knee injury. Reds may need the bullpen pretty early.

Turner on second, two outs, third inning, Peraza up.

Peraza called out, I don't think he swung at any of the six pitches. Very un-Peraza like.

Onto bottom three.

As for before, if they lifted Feldman in the third, who pitches, Adleman? With this wind blowing out? Good luck with that.

What's the point of complaining, I'd ask. We all know the situation, it's what it is. Until they get more pitching, they will stink.

If people want to pick on every move Price makes, fine, if it helps them get through this.

But the Reds' starting ERA is over 6, no other major league team ERA is close, it's a pathetic pitching staff, and that's the issue. Not whether Feldman should have pitched to Montgomery.

Should do a contest on what it is that sets him off:

(A) Swinging at 3-0 pitch
(B) Not being able to bunt
(C) TOOTBLAN
(D) Defensive gaffe

This. In large measure. I would have assumed it was an area they felt he would be able to help manage in particular. They've been pretty terrible at developing same his entire long tenure.

Check out the innings pitched of the young pitching and tell me how Price is supposed to be developing them?

Reed has 70 major league innings
Garrett has 70ish
Stephenson has 80 now

Rookie Davis? Anyone actually expecting anything out of him? He has 19 major league innings
Sal Romano has less than 40 major league innings.

Castillo has been great, but he's got 11 major league starts, right in line with Reed & Garrett. Has he been great because of Price? I mean, if you blame him for the others you have to give him credit for Castillo...except just like the rest of them it's a tiny sample size.

This is why I wanted these guys to pitch full time in the majors this season. then we might actually know something.

Who knows? He said that if you know Price, then you know he won't be bunting here and Sparky was the same way with guys like Bench, Perez and Foster. He said, "I didn't agree with it then and I don't agree with it now." More than likely he is hoping the batter fails to lay down a bunt so he can rip into him. There's a time and place for everything and I wouldn't bunt Brett Butler in that situation with the wind blowing out in Wrigley.

My point is that a hitter need not swing at a pitch he can't hit, thus if Billy had swung at that pitch the only difference would have been the direction of the K in the scorebook.
