Billy on third after a wild pitch from Taillon.

- - - Updated - - -

Cozart K's on a pretty ridiculous call from the home plate ump. Catcher even thought it was a ball. Jeez.

- - - Updated - - -

LOL of course Angel Hernandez is the ump.

- - - Updated - - -

Votto hits a rare popup. 2 outs.

What would be the consequences of having no timeouts for the pitcher and batter? Call it the "Grip It and Rip It" rule.

Mahle missing the zone but not by a huge amount. He kinda reminds me of Leake in that regard.

I think Mahle's ceiling is higher thanks to his extra velo, but there are some similarities.

Luplow with an infield single. Cozart made a nice play to stop it but had no chance for the out.

I'll say this. If Mahle can locate that curve ball for strikes the way he has so far, he's going to have a long sustained major league career.

This is my first chance watching him and I like what I see so far. He's got the same poise that Castillo had when he came up.

He's at 92 pitches now, I'd pull him but I have no doubt that Bryan will try to squeeze another frame out of him.

I'm not a Price guy but I feel like I gotta stick up for him as he's been piled on lately.

The setup was there to ream him if Mahle gave up a run in the 6th. But you know what, he didn't and Mahle ended up with a heck of an outing. I prefer the 6 IP 105 pitches to the 5 IP 92 pitches myself.

Hey I hear you.

But let's be 100% real. If Mahle gave up a run, Price would be getting ripped. He didn't, so.....crickets on the decision.

Now some might say they prefer the 5 IP 92 pitches, but c'mon 6 IP for Mahle 105 pitches is a heck of an outing and will help him grow as a starter.

It worked out, so that's to his credit.

But over the last few years I've seen numerous games where Bryan tries to squeeze an extra inning out of these young guys and it blows up in his face.

I'm usually going to err on the side of caution with young arms (especially considering The Reds have been the walking wounded as far as pitching goes for multiple seasons now), but Servo did make a good point about Mahle going over 100 pitches regularly in the minors (which I believe was NOT the case for someone like Castillo, and Price has pushed him hard several times). I don't follow the minors nearly as closely as some so I wouldn't have known that without having it pointed out to me.
