A couple games ago, Joe Morgan (I know, I know) was in the booth, and he was discussing the dance between pitchers and hitters. As hitters uppercut so that they might get more loft on the ball, pitchers will, he said, eventually realize that throwing fastballs up in the zone will largely negate looping swings and result in weak contact and lots of K's.

It made sense to my untrained and simplistic mind.

Bias against Morgan aside, does he have a point?

Yes he does. Joe knows the game of baseball. Joe played the game 4 decades ago the way it is valued today. He has a couple old school things that blows up this site but Joe knows what he is talking about and he brought up a great point about that.

We can question Morgan's ability to understand advanced statistics all day long, but his knowledge of the art of hitting is unquestionable IMO.
