Talk in the booth is about how Lynn recovered from Tommy John as opposed to Bailey

Dare we ask the name of the surgeons?

Well Lynn 'only' had TJ. Homer had flexor mass surgery in 2014, TJ in 2015, and bone spurs removed from his pitching elbow this offseason.

Duvall with a 2 out dunker to LF but Turner grounds weakly to 2nd.

Kc61

Didn't like that pitch to Molina in the first inning.

First base open, clutch hitter up, full count, can't throw one over the plate like that.

Throw it off the plate, if he walks, so be it.

Cannot let the fear of walks control your pitching.

I'm not totally discouraged, he still visibly looks better than he did earlier in the year, but it's disappointing given his recent run.

If you're afraid to walk a hitter like Molina or Carpenter in a clutch spot, you're done as a pitcher. However it works out in a particular case. Cannot fear walking hitters.

It's disappointing but every pitcher is going to struggle especially when they are young. Remember, it seems like he's been around forever but it's really only been a year in the Show. Now if he starts getting shelled from now on, I'd be worried.

"Avoiding walks = you're afraid" is a weird point. Yes I get you don't want to throw a cookie, but walks aren't ideal either.

Tom Servo

Walk by Bob to start the third. I'd just about call it a night for him.

And there's another double, beating the shift. Time to take the kid out.

Price disagrees. Bob wild but Bader bails him out with a bad swing on a groundout.

Sac fly. 6-1 Cards.

Bob strikes out Lynn (#5) to end the third. Don't really see any point in sending him back out for the 4th with 15 guys in the bullpen.

It's a bit too subtle, I guess.

Suffice it to say that Stephenson, despite all his walks, should not have thrown to Molina in the heart of the plate.

He should have risked the walk and made Molina reach for one. He's a very good hitter in clutch situations, don't worry about walking him.

Walks aren't good outcomes, but sometimes you have to risk walking the hitter.

Can we agree they're going to get rid of him in 2.5 weeks? They won't put him on the 40 man roster. So that begs the question, why are they running him out there now?

No, we can't agree on that. Is it possible? Sure. It might even be likely, but I don't KNOW that it's going to happen.

And they are running him out there now for lots of reasons. One reason could be to get more information on him to decide if they should keep him or DFA him. There's literally no better time than right now to get the kind of information you want to have to make that decision - when the games don't actually matter.

If they need to see that then yeah, that's the reason for running him out there. I've seen absolutely nothing to show me that he has big league stuff. This is his 5th outing and he's given up runs in 4 of them. That's about as bad as it gets when you consider they're all pretty much 1 inning outings.

There you go again- using "facts" just to be "accurate". Looks like I had my Septembers mixed up and it was '15 when he lost his power the last couple of weeks. He was nice enough to go 2-2 after my post however. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=vottojo01&t=b&year=2015 He still hit well that month and had a OPS of .940 so it is not as if he had the shanks or a human person type of slump but he only had one EBH in his last 14 games and none in the last 10.
