Haven't seen a lineup yet, though I suspect it will trickle out today at some point. It was reported this morning on 700WLW's spring training report that Sal Romano will take the bump to start the game. Dave Armbruster implied that Reed will also make an appearance in relief tomorrow, but he may have just been talking in general terms on Reed as he was focusing on his transition to the pen and that Price likes what he's seen so far, so saying that "we'll see for real tomorrow" may have just been a throw away line.

According to https://www.redreporter.com/2018/2/22/17040678/cincinnati-reds-links-sal-romano-tyler-mahle-spring-training-opener

Mahle is schedule to pitch after Ramona via CTrent followed by Stephens, Shackleford, & Mella, with Astin, Reyes & Herget available as well.

Also according to a tweet from CTrent via Price:

Lorenzen on Saturday, Bailey & Castillo on Sunday (split squad), Disco either tuesday or wednesday

I guess BobSteve has had some sort of issue with his neck? First I saw of it on a response to a CTrent tweet; details? I assume its not serious.

Neck amputation will be next week.

That lineup is wrong. SS always bats 2nd. Someone needs to remind Price.

Well, Walt Williams survived that surgery and went on to have a major league career.

So many who haven't been in a grade school classroom recently won't get that.

Maybe this means Suarez is actually being moved to SS?

8 posts into the pre-season and nobody is complaining about the outfield rotation.

And that Winker isn’t playing.

Shows some unusual restraint.

The first spring training game (and broadcast) always feels to me like the true start of the season. This is a good day.

He's day to day - of course with the Reds and injury predictions, that means some day in August to start throwing, and will resume regular baseball activities in October.

The broadcast schedule shows the game will be on FS Ohio but when I check tv Guide app its not listed some replay of a college baskettball game is. Is the game still going to be on FS Ohio?

I looked at the schedule again and saw they moved the game to Sportstime Ohio.

MLB TV doing the "here's a popular clip" thing during the commercial break. Fine idea if they would show more than the same 3 clips over and over

Scoreless first for Sal. I'm feeling pretty optimist about him heading into 2018, he took some lumps but overall had a solid rookie campaign and I think there's still improvement that can come with his stuff where he goes from a 4.00 ERA something innings eater to a potential #2-#3 type.

double play and then a ground out to first

What the hell? I know it's Spring Training and all, but the second hitter up this inning (I think it was Lindor) just received a 3 ball walk. The first pitch from Mahle was a called strike. He then threw 2 balls and the ump put up three fingers on one hand and one finger on the other. Next pitch was a ball and then the hitter went down to first base. No one caught this. Not Mahle, Barnhardt, Price or our chatty announcing team. I just rewound the DVR to confirm this. Seriously. What's up with that? Do they really not care that much? I guess so.

He didn't exactly let the second one on...see my previous post. The first one got on due to a ground ball that Scooter couldn't pick up. In fairness I don't think there was going to be anyone at 1B to receive his throw but this sort of "error" bothers me about Scooter and a middle INF position

Thom and Welsh talking about Billy H's bunting and how they want him to do more of that this year. He then lats down what they thought was a very good bunt and the catch pounces on it and throws him out by a step and a half. They then praise the play by the catcher. No, if it wasn't such a good play, he would have been thrown out by a half step instead.

A couple things here:

1) The league knows about Billy H and they've effectively taken away the bunt from him with less than 2 strikes

2) There are an awful lot of good 3B and C's in MLB

3) Billy's not terribly good at it

4) It'll take a perfect bunt most times given the above

No, if we are treated to more bunting from Billy this yr expect even less of an OBP from him

Did I just hear that correctly... The commish is thinking about... If a team is trailing in the bottom of the 9th then that team can send anyone the want to the plate? So if Votto gets the last out in the 8th you can send him back up there for the 9th. WHAT! Mind... Blown...

Mahle's AB against Yonder Alonso was eye-opening. He nibbled a bit before throwing a back-door off-speed pitch on the outside corner. He then came back with a numbers-high fastball Alonso was waaaaayy behind on. Mahle then went with a change that painted that same outside corner for strike three. Alonso had no chance on any of those three offerings.

Impressive.
