Hit Barnhart 2nd, Peraza 9th with Blandino and Bailey each moving up a spot, and that's about the best they can do on offense with this group of players on the roster IMO. Hate Schebler in CF and Winker in RF, but if getting the bats going is the idea, today is the day for it. No young pitcher out there to suffer the consequences of the clown show in the OF and it definitely upgrades the line-up.

Tired of seeing Peraza in the 2 spot. It's proven he's not going to get on base much at all. I understand Geno is normally there, but why would we want Peraza getting an extra at bat over say Tucker? He's basically a glorified pitcher with the bat. Price quit texting in the lineups, you're out bro.

If you are going to sit Billy, if for no other reason than to rest him, the time to do it is when Homer Bailey is on the mound. I want Billy's glove in their when the four kids are pitching.

Disagree with Rigg’s decision to sit Billy and use Duvall against Martinez. One of Duvall’s problems is that Reds almost always face RHP. Martinez particularly tough. I’d rather go with Billy’s defense and bunting/slapping today, would have rotated Duvall to bench today.

I imagine there will be more polarization like that now that more teams are willing to tank. Wouldn’t be surprised if a team won 110+ games this season and another won less than 50.

also I’m not surprised by the lack of power from anyone besides Votto. That’ll be fixed when Geno comes back and Senzel being called up will also be a shot in the arm in the power department, but I won’t be surprised if Scooter and Duvall/Schebler don’t really hit for much.

I imagine there will be more polarization like that now that more teams are willing to tank. Wouldn’t be surprised if a team won 110+ games this season and another won less than 50.

They're still playing baseball

Because in every industry that pays a workforce that workforce needs to perform. Trying doesn't count a whole Lot. If I only sold 3 out of 20 deals I work, sure I'd try harder, but I likely wouldn't be given the chance. Because I'm Not performing even average. I'd accept the pay sure, but it'd feel like stealing to me.

For sure, obviously a lot of these guys don't belong in the roles they are in, or in the league at all. On the other hand, they all preformed at some point along the way, probably for years to even get to MLB at all. Guys have to show something for a long time to get this high in the sport.

Just that its a team thing, not guys taking advantage. They should enjoy it while they are here, because some of these guys will not be in MLB after they leave the Reds, lol.

Has anybody read any analysis about how the baseball has played so far this season?

In March/April 2017, the MLB slash line was .247/.317/.407.

So far in 2018, the MLB slash line is .241/.318/.392.

isoP is down .009 points, I doubt that is statistically significant. Weather has probably played a factor as well...

Yep, though he wouldn't be so bad if they'd use him as God intended, as a purely defensive player.

They really need a corner infield type who can be at least a viable pinch hitter once in a while.

There weren't many options available. The Reds weren't going to use Mesoraco as a PH in the 7th inning, so the choices were Pennington, Gosselin, Hamilton, or letting Garrett hit for himself (which wasn't going to happen).

The five-man bench doesn't really allow for offensive subs. The bench players are generally defensive in nature.

My main problem with their bench is the duplicate players of Goslin and Pennington.

I think the best you can do with the 5 man bench is - 2 OF (1 offensive-oriented and 1 defensive) 2 IF (1 offensive, 1 defensive) and the catcher. I wouldn't really care where the two offensive players can play, defensive flexibility is for losers.

Right now the whole bench is defensive (or bad) which is just, well, offensive.

Pennington is not the problem. He’s a backup SS. They don’t hit. He’s no exception.

The problem is that he gets used as a lefty PH because they don’t have one (other than Winker or Scheb when sitting out).

Gosselin, Mesoraco, and Ervin are all RHH. The Reds should swap out one of them for a lefty bat. That would help balance the bench.

Joey's walk moved the lead runner to 3rd base, where he could have scored with a SF, PB,WP, or any number of ways. it also moved the go ahead run into scoring position.

Normally, I’d be happy when Votto takes a walk in that situation, bases loaded with one out and the cleanup hitter coming up. That’s a great postion to at least tie the game. But when that cleanup hitter is Scooter and the next batter is a Gosselin, I felt like the game was over when Votto walked.

I’m not saying Votto should have swung at a pitch he didn’t like, but I’m not sure it would have had a worse result, and that result was rather expected.
