Second consecutive game Winker isn't starting, this time against the righty. With the off-day it's three straight days without a starting appearance (did come into game Sunday).

Guessing he's slumping and getting some quality time off; or maybe an injury; expected him in the lineup today.

Also, Rossell Herrera pinch hit for Louisville today.

So the Reds made a move, probably Dixon added, we'll see. Probably means Reds were happy enough with Blandino backing up shortstop.

Who does Hurdle have his staff throw at first? And does that cause the Reds to shut down offensively? (After the Cubs/Maddon called them out, they shut down the last 3 games of the series). I'm guessing a HBP within the first time through the order for the Reds.

Suarez because he came back too soon from the DL last time they threw at him. Or because the day ends with y.

Most likely just the slump. Winker is now 1 for his last 16 and for the month of May is only hitting .151 with an OBP of .224. He is young and I expect he will turn it around eventually but this has been a really rough stretch for him.

If he's at 82 he should be able to go at least 2 more. He's only a Red until either the end of July or September - he can throw 150 as far as I'm concerned. It's not like the Reds are going to sign any Scott Borass's other client's any time soon.

The blueprint is get good players. Get more good players, win more games. I'm not saying trade for A ball guys, you're gonna get good talent back if Scooter keeps raking like he is. Or just keep waiting, and wait too long like with Cozart, like with Frazier, like with Chapman.

The blueprint is get good players. Get more good players, win more games. I'm not saying trade for A ball guys, you're gonna get good talent back if Scooter keeps raking like he is. Or just keep waiting, and wait too long like with Cozart, like with Frazier, like with Chapman.

It's funny because it's like my generation is supposed to be "too emotional" but you guys see a guy hit HRs on a losing team and demand that no, he's not allowed to go anywhere.

But “good talent” usually means guys who haven’t yet shown they can play in the majors.

That’s my problem with the rebuild at this stage. It’s a lot of names of guys on lists, but there’s no idea how to turn these assets into a winning MLB club.

What I like about Scooter is not that home run. What I like is he performs in the major leagues.

It would appear that Scooter is a good player (though there are some here who maintain that in fact he is not, and his performance is a mirage). Are they going to get comparable or better talent in return? Maybe, but I have my doubts. I do not have confidence in the decision-makers in the Reds front office (looking at you, Dick Williams).

I understand the prospects for Scooter could be helpers in a pennant run down the road. I also understand the growing tired of waiting on this process that seems to have no direction.

What I do know is that Scooter is one of the consistently few reasons I tune in and watch this horrible team. He may not be anywhere near when the Reds are winning 90 games but I definitely appreciate what he’s done in his time with the Reds. I’m still going with the “he’s found it”....much like Daniel Murphy. He may OPS .640 the rest of the year but his sample size is becoming more and more significant.

Among position players, if you keep Gennett, you have four well paid players: Votto, Suarez, Barnhart, and Gennett. Fill in the remaining four spots with young, pre-arb guys.

The pitching, other than Bailey, is dirt cheap. Add a couple of salaries there.

Reds certainly should be resourceful enough to find three pre-arb players, along with Senzel, who can fill out the team. And they certainly can find two good pitchers on whom to spend some money.

Assuming none of these guys can play shortstop, we've got to figure out some way to have an infield using Votto, Suarez, Gennett, Dilson Herrera (who might end up as Scooter making nothing with a lot more control), Senzel, and Shed Long. Even giving LF to one of them means we still have 2 guys with no spot.

And giving LF to one of them means we're gonna have to do something with two of our three corner OFs.

Herrera is hitting well enough to where he won't sneak through waivers again.

A trade is going to have to happen at some point. Unless we just want to have the best bench ever.

Sure, all about team control.

Agree! For small market teams they have to sell players high when they are losing team control and keep working to get a combination that comes together for a season that everything goes good with most of the players under team control. They have to fight the urge to keep many players at all once they lose team control.

And with this win, the REDS now have two shots to get another 3+ win week, maintaining their growth and improvement by displaying consistency, while at the same time winning a series against a Divisional opponent. Both chances come with our young prospects on the mound.

Let's see what happens. I'm certainly enjoying watching this. Making some chili tomorrow night for Memorial weekend. Will be finished on Thursday cooking it.

Didn't watch any of the game. But it's nice to see Harvey keeps improving and coming around. Barnhart batting 2nd worked out for night anyway. Let's try him again tonight in the 2nd spot. Scooter just keeps going. A win makes the day better. You appreciate every one that comes our way.

Dilson Herrera. AAA
Shed Long AA
