Barnhart still batting 2nd.

Joey Votto looks to break Johnny Bench's IBB record tonight. Should be some fireworks set off whenever that happens!

Can Homer give up less than five runs in five innings tonight?

I know its not a big deal, but I like flipping Peraza and Barnhart.

Hopefully the solid 1-6 can get some things cooking to offset that bottom 1/3 of the order.

I think the way they usually call that, if the runner is across the line, is if the runner screens the fielder on first and he misses it without it touching the runner, they let it stand, and only call the interference if the throw hits the batter. So if you throw it to the right of 2 feet left of the line, you better hit the batter! Cervelli intended to hit the batter and was successful, got the call and the runner had to go back to 1B, rather than if he makes the correct throw the runner is sacrificed to 2B.

Bottom line is Votto is terrible baserunner. Hatcher is to blame a bit for not sending him from the 3rd on the Suarez line out. But the bigger mistake was Votto looking back at Rodriguez on the double. If he picks up his third base coach after rounding third, hes at third standing up with nobody out. Rodriguez fumbled that ball a ton. Later, Votto waits too long move to third on the Gennett single negating any chance to score.

TV guys were bemoaning Votto not tagging, but to me it looked pretty shallow; I know the left fielder was supposed to have a bad arm, but unless it’s Lonnie Smith bad I’d say He gets Votto four times out of five.

On the other hand, I totally would have bunted with Floro. He’s a lot more likely to get a bunt down than a base hit or deep fly, and a successful bunt moves the winning run into scoring position. Plus once you put the ball in play, maybe something weird and wonderful could happen.

Not that it ended up mattering anyway. These guys are killing me...

Something to consider:

If Votto tags and comes to the plate and is thrown out (which I think was highly likely), then the game is effectively over, as the pitcher (whether Floro or another pitcher pinch-hitting for him) is now batting with two outs and the tying run at 1st. On the other hand, if Votto holds, then Floro bats with one out. He most likely strikes out, but then the Reds still have Peraza (and as it turned out, also Dixon) batting with two outs and the tying run at 3rd. A lesser light at the plate, to be sure, but still a better chance IMO than trying to send Votto on that particular flyout.
