Romano's last two starts have been absolutely abysmal. His one before that was excellent, so there's recent examples of him throwing correctly for him and his Coaches to refer to so he can get it in his mind how to correct things. Let's see what they've come up with over the last week.

Romano is going to get another chance if he can throw two gooseeggs up the next two innings.
It really depends on Disco. If they bring Disco up for Wednesday the 30th then Sal likely will be out of the rotation. If they keep Disco down at AAA for one more start, then Sal will get another outing.
Sal’s ticket is as a ground ball pitcher with enough strikeouts. He needs to figure out how to get more of each.
If he goes to AAA, I’d look for GB rate and K rate more than ERA or anything else. Not worried about his walks, eventually those will come down again.

Last year Romano (partial season) had a K rate of 7.55 and GB rate of 50.4%.

I don’t agree. In today’s game, the average starter gets about 8.3 Ks per nine. Sal is 25% below that.

And yet I see guys in that 104 to 119 range who are viable big league starters. Arrieta, Trevor Williams, Colon, Bettis, Fiers, Mengden, Anderson, Leake, etc. I think Romano can be an inning eater like those guys. But he can't have a BB/9 over probably 3.5 at very most, and he was over it last year and way over it this year. Needs to get better.

I don’t agree. In today’s game, the average starter gets about 8.3 Ks per nine. Sal is 25% below that.
Even if his walks were lower, he either has to increase his Ks or increase his GB rate or he won’t succeed in today’s game.
Exactamundo KC.
We can harp on his weak K/9 or we can harp about the fact that he doesn’t have a bag of tricks up his sleeve to overcome such a weak K/9.
I choose the former.

I don't think anyone is down on him. I get the feeling everyone wants him to be in a position to succeed and are suggesting that his last three starts puts him in jeopardy of sinking into that state we all know too well where a young pitcher is spending more time fighting himself instead of his opponents. A trip back to AAA is the usual recipe for realigning a pitcher's psyche. Sal's psyche is rocky right now.

More stuff and more bat missing. The results aren’t the big issue, it’s that he doesn’t miss enough bats.
IMO Sal needs to become a true ground ball pitcher, very high GB rate, dramatically reducing homers, throwing double plays. Then hopefully with maturity he can miss a few more bats and we’ll have something.

I think the problem might be couching it with "at this point." Sal's always been problematic. If he was in another org I doubt we'd be looking at his resume and thinking he's going to be good. My take on him is he's striving to reach his BOR potential. So "at this point" I expect him to be the marginal talent he has been and most likely will continue to be.
Mind you, I'd love to be wrong about that.

Expecting a bit of success, a bit of failure. Can't let him get buried by his failures, though. He has to know he'll get another chance and that gets communicated by management. There's always another chance in this rotation. I like to protect my players,...push them some, reward success, pull back the reigns when there's too much struggling.

I mean let’s be real. Romano (at this point) should never be comped with Ohtani, Serevino, McCullers, Berrios etc. Just a different caliber of player. I hope we can agree there.

I think we have a right to expect a different approach this season. New G.M., sort of. New Manager that has been successful. New attitude. Why not build on that by making at keast one June move to fix a hole. They could do a May move as suggested and fix the backup Catcher hole by grabbing Jett. Do a June Move, too, and a July Move, and three holes have been fixed. Ride this wave, establish a winning attitude, and the fans will show up and adding another surge to the wave.

Leake has struck out 37 batters in 57 and 2/3rds innings pitched. Team Rankings.com has listed Leake as 86th with a 5.8 strikeouts per 9 innings pitched, a far cry from your 104 - 109 range.
