DH, isn't that where you put your worst defender so he can hit and not have to go in the field? I think Riggleman got it right! Although Joey is not quite as bad as the Tenn Tech first baseman in their elimination game they lost instead of going to the CWS.

Is Duvall really better at 1b than Votto? Asking as I have not actually seen Duvall in his 1b games. Is Duvall at 1st instead of Votto more of an improvement that Duvall the GG OF in the OF instead of Winker?

That being asked I am okay with Votto getting the rest.

The best defensive alignment is probably:
Votto 1B

Winker DH

But I'm confident that Duvall would be a fine defensive 1B with a little experience. And as you mentioned, this is primarily about giving Votto a few days off without losing his bat.

With Votto getting valuable rest by DHing, it would be best if Winkler could do decent at 1B, but he probably hasn't worked on it. If Joey broke his femur running the bases tonight, I'd hope that Winker would get OJT and take over 1B for him.

Their window was never really wide open, their young core of Perez, Hosmer, Moustakas, and Yordano Ventura (rip) was good but was never their greatest strength. They were a team of destiny who saw the clock strike midnight, with Alex Gordon and his big contract taking one of the biggest tumbles.

I said if he gets hurt, I'd hope the Reds would put Winker at 1st. The season is lost and with the slow afoot Winker it would be a golden opportunity to get him to a position he may be better suited for, to get him more versatile and keep his bat in the line-up.

Typical small market team that it all comes together for a small window of time, but they can hardly afford to keep any good players with more than 4 years in MLB, and when they get close they mortgage the future to try to win it all.

Amazing with the bad year he's having, but Duvall has 11 HR and 38 RBI's while hitting .188 and OPS-ing at .668. If he could get it going somewhat better, the offense would also be better.

Would really appreciate Iggy not doing any further damage to his BB/9 or HR/9 here.

He was daydreaming about Kyle Schwarber getting down a successful bunt....in Arizona, with Urban Meyer in the stands wearing an Ohio University hat

Not an Ohio University hat, but an Ohio State hat.

THom only mentions OU out of guilt. He has no love for them.

The REDS just won a series. I seriously want to get greedy and win the next one.

On pace for 60-102.

I believe that's the first time we hit the "60" number?

This is the absolute worst Reds team I've ever seen. I've said it all year. I can't believe we found a team that's worse.

The record proves it. Jim Riggleman has managed to have a record of 23-28 or a winning percentage of .451, so there is some progress. If Riggleman can do at least that well. we would win 43 more or a total of 69-93 or a winning percentage of .426, which is about where we've been since Price took over, but a record of 66-78 under Riggs is .458. Yeah, its kind of obvious this isn't a good team.

I listened to Marty and Jeff last night. It was amusing to hear them discover park effects as player after player flied out to the warning track.

Also, this team continues to be what it appeared to be last month: they can beat other bad teams but lose to the decent to good teams.

The Reds have found a team they can beat regularly. It's too bad they don't play them again until the last week of the season. Actually the Reds may be better than a few teams like the Orioles,Padres,White Sox and a couple of others. Just a lot of bad baseball teams in 2018. This may actually keep them from losing 100 games this season.

On pace for 60-102.

Almost to the point of not having the worst record on record for the Reds. With the Pirates coming up, who aren't playing well at all and the Tigers they have a shot at getting off the 100 loss pace.

Wonder how Mahle feels about working with Casali?

"I'm really comfortable with him. I like him a lot back there. He has a good presence. He calls a good game. I don't think I'm too hard to call pitches for so it's easy for me to mend with guys. We mend really well." -- Mahle, on working with Curt Casali, who was acquired in a trade from the Rays on May 31

I believe the Reds are currently at their highest winning percentage of the season.
