Bailey's next rehab start for Louisville tomorrow has been scratched. Right knee still bothering him and he's been returned from his rehab assignment. #reds

So the pitcher bats 9th when Hamilton sits? Has that been the pattern all along?

Votto takes strike three --- oh wait --- ump blows one & Reds get a runner

update --- Scooter K's though -- Kuhl looks on it for PieRats in the first inning -- Harvey best not give up runs early

Two "Josh Harrison is from Cincinnati" references in the 1st inning from Thom. I'm putting the over/under at 10.5.

God I can't wait until Harrison isn't in the NL Central anymore just so I don't have to hear about it anymore.

Loved Case when he was a player, but God help us...

That's as bad a ball call on a lead pipe cinch strike as I've ever seen! That baby was at least 5" in from both the top edge and outside edge of the strike zone!

Scooter could have saved the run and had a shot still at the triple play if, as soon as he got the force at 2nd, started running with the ball to 3rd.

at the least it looked like an out at 2nd & home was possible but "fog of war" comes in to play too

that was quite the ugly bunt by Harvey that was promptly thrown down the left field line by the pitcher -- amazing to me how many times I pitcher of all players it's the pitcher that throws the ball away when throwing to a base

That was bad, don't get an out and the bunter and both baserunners move up 2 bases!

2-1 Reds as Kuhl throws that bunt attempt into left field

That throw reminded me a little of Carlos Zambrano. I remember watching a game between the Reds and Cubs at Wrigley where Zambrano gave up a triple to Eric Milton. Z was so upset about it that he tried to pick Milton off third, and threw it into the tenth row.

The pitcher is almost invariably the weakest defensive player on the infield.

Reds simply need to hit for more power.

If you hit a homer or two you don’t have so much pressure to cash in on rallies.

They rarely charge an E1 on a fielding error since the pitcher is often not in a good position to field and has little reaction time. But that one was well-earned.

Yes but he throws with his foot on the rubber and very deliberate, rehearsed wind-up, so an ad-lib play of having to go field the ball and throw to a base is tough!

I strongly disagree with that. You have to convert a high percentage of runs you have a chance to score without a hit, not try to hit long balls, and try to square the ball up,and the EBHs will take care of themselves.

Big Klu
06-15-2018, 09:54 PM
THom, it's not hard to figure out. If a manager goes to his closer no matter what, then he has "the book" to protect him if things go wrong.

"Well, we had the lead so we went with our closer. It just didn't work out."

Or the Reds lost because hitters couldn't take advantage of the great set-ups they had from 3 grievous errors by the Pirates.

Marty said Harvey was cruising until the first 2 hitters reached in the 6th, but to my eye the Pirates were smashing a lot of pitches that fortunately the Reds defenders were able to get to for outs.

Guys like Schebler have plenty of power. It's striking out with runners in scoring position and no one out that hurt. Guys who hit for power tend to strike out.

This game is an excellent example of why this team is so bad. Even when given huge gifts they still struggle to win. In their only win vs St Louis it took a pitcher walking the bases loaded to give them a chance.
