Romano starting. First hitter grounds one up the middle for a single. Second guy flies out on 3-2 pitch and then next guy grounds out. Runner on 2nd two down.

K's next guy swinging on ball in dirt.

Tigers picked up Leonys Martin off the scrap heap for $1.8 mill and he's given them 2.1 fWAR so far this season. Reds kept Billy and his $4.6 mill salary and he's given them 0.3 fWAR so far.

So that's great.

Reds do nothing in the first.

In top of second. first batter K's, next guy walks. Next guy hit sharp grounder to Joey who gets force at 2nd. Then popout to Scooter.

0-0

Reds announcers impressed with Boyd, and he does look to be taking a nice leap forward this season.

I'd just point out that Romano in his age 23 and 24 seasons (the latter still ongoing) has a better ERA, FIP, and ERA+ than Boyd did in his age 24 and 25 seasons.

preview of the game from the Tiger's perspective This week, the Tigers finally have a big advantage. They will send their two best starters, Matthew Boyd and Michael Fulmer, up against a pair of back-end starters from the Cincinnati Reds’ struggling rotation. Tuesday starter Sal Romano throws hard, but hasn’t developed a put-away pitch, and his command has regressed some from his time in the minors. Righthander Tyler Mahle, who will start on Wednesday, has a deceptive delivery and is striking out more hitters this year, but is having trouble keeping the ball in the park, and lefties are teeing off against him.

While Romano and Mahle have a future in the big leagues, neither pitcher measures up well to what Boyd and Fulmer have done this season. Boyd continued to roll in his last start, limiting the Minnesota Twins to two runs on three hits, though it took him 106 pitches to get through five innings.

Well that last inning was a turd in an otherwise very enjoyable bowl of punch.

But we're still good! :beerme:

Typical guy for this org to keep around. Hard straight fastball, crappy secondary stuff, no command.

Leftys who throw 97 are nice and all, but he aint ready.

Arguably, last yr his best pitch was his change up

At least our pen hasn't done this...

San Francisco Giants — Closer Hunter Strickland punched a door or wall in frustration after coming out of Monday’s game, breaking his pitching hand. He’ll need surgery and is out 6-8 weeks. Manager Bruce Bochy said Tony Watson and Sam Dyson will split closing duties in Strickland’s stead. Watson has had a better season, so we’ll give him an edge. Side note: Mark Melancon isn’t ready to close just yet.

I thought you liked him? Also he really didn't do anything wrong here.I know, I guess it was his comments earlier about Wandy being good before and now...I still like Riggleman, but obviously Wandy is toast. ERA now 6.14. When he walked the bases full, it should have been bye bye for him. Jim did nothing wrong, but why allow that to happen?

Anyway, a win is a win and we're getting closer to shunning that 100-loss record. Riggleman now 24-30,

Reds improve to 5-6 on Bowtie Tuesday.

(But does it count as Bowtie Tuesday if Chris Welsh isn't there?)

Great interview from Pic with Votto and Duvall. Makes you want to root for the latter to keep digging out of the hole and getting back to being a real dangerous hitter.

Romano earned three more starts with his last performance. That was against KC, but it was still well-earned. He's now earned enough starts to where he'd have to bomb out over his next six starts to not end up finishing this season in Cincinnati.

That's what we're looking for from the youngsters,...show us you belong and deserve to stay.

Just Votto being Votto, joking about the "Rally Bird" and how he's tried to help Duvall keep pushing to get out of his funk. Told a story about how Duvall is always a guy putting extra time and work in the cage to get right.

I'm genuinely baffled at why they've stuck with him this long. He's got more walks than strikeouts!

Because he's a lefty. If he pitched right handed he'd be in Louisville.

I was listening to the game on the car radio. My parents were taking me to Bowling Green State University for Buckeye Boys State.

My alma mater Big Klu. I was there 1986-1990

For the record, Wandy did not walk the bases full, there was 3 straight ground ball singles.

With this outing by Romano I am more encouraged about him. I know it was against two weak team but still he has shown improvement. The acid test will be Sunday against the Cubs.
I think they sent the wrong pitcher back to Louisville. The Magic Wandy should have been on that bus.

An early 12:35 game today. Another sweep would be good for all of us with a tough stretch of games coming up.
