Scooter needs to recalibrate. He’s trying too hard right now. His swing has been wild the last 10-12 games but he’s getting some hits in there. Of very late he is down 0-2 in the count about 3x a game. He typically battles but too hard to be down 0-2. I think is pull swing is too hard and too much going on, needs to shorten things up. His oppo swings isn’t far off but being down 0-2 due to his trying to pull swing is making him less effective.

He needs to stop swinging at pitches 8 inches above the zone.

I don't see why a pitcher would throw him a strike right now. Make 'em bring it down.

Heh, I remember in one of the more recent game threads someone said trade Lorenzen because he's too inconsistent.

I actually thought at that time it might be more interesting to try to transition him to the outfield. You can always find a bullpen guy who throws 96. I mean, you really can. They almost seem to grow on trees anymore. And while yes you can find outfielders too, if Lorenzen is not going to be a reliable bullpen guy it might be worth at least seeing if he can be a reliable bat.

The Cardinals did it with Ankiel and while it didn't necessarily work out sensationally it did buy Ankiel major league playing time until he was 33 that he likely wasn't going to see as a pitcher barring a dramatic turnaround.

And I have a feeling Lorenzen would be a more refined hitter than Ankiel was.

That is a terrible scoring decision to Barnhart an error, just because the ump didn't see what happened at first and gave an out sign that he quickly corrected. You never should get an error on a tag play that runner and ball arrive at the glove at the same time.

Exactly.

I'm guessing you've kept a book once or twice in your lifetime.

A few times, but not as much as you might think. I got interested in scoring at my first Reds game in the early 60's at Crosley field when we paid like a quarter for a scorecard so we could know who the players were from their numbers which was before they put their names on their backs. It came with a short pencil with a valuable eraser on it, nit like for golf scorecards. Anyway I have been interested in scoring ever since.

Tonight Billy Hamilton deserved an error much more than Tucker Barnhart's on his wild throw home after his tag-out on the rundown play. If he makes a good throw there and they get the DP, then Tucker is the hero instead of the goat. Tucker's and Hernan Perez' agents need to file an appeal on that play to get the error removed and an RBI credited. Then Crockett's and Jackson Stephens' agents will want to counter appeal for the 4 un-earned runs turning into earned runs!
