Scooter made the last out in the seventh. In a nine inning game (not extras) he’s unlikely to bat again.
This double switch allows Hughes to pitch an extended outing without hitting.
It’s not a bad one, as those things go.

If Billy gets traded, he will be missed. What a fielder. He’s up there with some of the great defensive outfielders Reds have had. Great throw there.

Teams have given parts of 8 seasons and over $5,000,000 to play baseball...so there's that.

Sometimes certain managers and players make good judgment calls. In Riggleman's case, it's more often than not. If the Reds, as I expect, hire someone else, He has earned a job somewhere.

Reds have won 11 of 14 and are on a nice roll. This road trip will be a tough one though. They are going to three places that have been very hard to win, Chicago,Cleveland and St. Louis. If they can manage five wins in this stretch it would be wonderful and a nice way to go into the all star break.

I have to agree with a post I saw criticizing Riggleman for doubleswitchamania. He is overusing it and is getting burnt on who is in the game when the bullpen coughs up a lead or a late rally is needed. Sometimes it works out, but he is switching out guys you want hitting late in the game, whether its for add on, late rally, extra innings, or catch up. A double switch is usually needed once in a close game, he's doing it 2-3 times a night.
