Boston Red

Wind was a bummer for Scooter there, but with Mahle on the hill, I've got to say the wind blowing in is overall a major positive for the Reds today.

Glad to have the steal, but will Votto get a strike now?

I've seen this multiple times this year. What is the purpose of putting on a shift and then pitching outside? Do they think the batter is such a pull hitter that he will try to pull it anyway and hit a weak ground ball?

You have to pitch him outside from time to time to keep him honest, for one thing. Plus, he's not likely to him the ball out of the ballpark on that pitch.

Schwarber in the outfield is awesome. For us.

This wide strike zone should work to Mahle's advantage. Just a bit frustrating when the Reds are at bat against a pitcher struggling to throw strikes.

The ugly side of HAVAC

Caught Stealing's happen, especially if you're aggressive on the basepaths. Sometimes against a lefty, you just have to go on the first move and hope you guessed right.

membengal
07-06-2018, 03:10 PM
That worked out fine with the flyball to end the inning, but Mahle threw a pitch center cut belt high that was called a ball. I don't know what the ump was looking at. It's just weird. It wasn't a miss of a call on the corner, it was a middle of the zone strike. Called a ball.

Not singling out Jim Day here, because a lot of announcers do it. But it always annoys me when announcers say things like, "Schebler, Casali, and a pinch-hitter due up." The spot is the pitcher's spot until it isn't. Don't jump the gun.

Lorenzen doesn't help that feeling I bet.

I think he can be a weapon, but is overrated by some as a pitcher.

Who is overrating him, especially in the game threads?

Right. And you could see the opposing broadcaster maybe just assuming that, but Jim Day’s been watching this wild story develop.

Not in the game threads particularly.

There's a lot of talk about moving him to the rotation.

I mean, he hasn't been a starter since 2015, and while he's a solid middle reliever, he's not really dominant out of the pen. Not at all a guy who I would move to a starter role.

He's not my ideal guy for this situation, but I get that not everybody is always available.

He took some pretty good breaking balls that were just outside the strike zone.

I realize that he's a pitcher and not an outfielder, and that overuse might expose some holes in his offensive game. But Lorenzen is more than just "a good hitter for a pitcher". He's got actual hitting skills. They're raw, but real.

Inciarte, Kiermeier, JBJ and some others catch that ball....but it’s an all out head first dive. If he gets an average jump he catches it in more spectacular fashion....but not as good

How bout these young Redlegs!?!?!?!
Iggy is a BOSS! And Mahle was excellent.
The talent has been there all along, I just can't comprehend why it took so long for the powers that be to get rid of Bryan Price.
He obviously should have been gone 2 years ago, the fans were screaming it, I was screaming it, but for some ODD reason the Reds kept bringing him back>>>
Even after yet ANOTHER pathetic season, they actually give him ANOTHER SEASON in 2018? I just couldn't understand it or believe it.

But all is finally well now, Price is gone, I don't even have to hear the words Homer Bailey, the rookie pitchers are bearing fruit, and we have some top talent coming up real soon. If they spend a little money on 1 or 2 good free agents in 2019, we could actually be ahead of schedule on this rebuild.

If they trade Iggy at the deadline, I will honestly FREAK OUT. I just hope it is not even considered.
Only player I would be ok with trading him for is Tucker in Houston.

14 of 18, 17 of 23, and 5 in a row over the HATED cubbies, that's a very impressive run for Riggleman!
He may actually win his way into removing the interim tag.

Absolutely. They were losing games at an historic pace back in April and early May. 115 to 120 losses looked like a real possibility back then.

If there is one thing this game showed is that Gennett MUST be moved to LF. Yes, that will take Duvall being traded, but Scooter couldn't catch up to two balls that an average 2b would have, and messed up two double plays. His loopy throwing is inaccurate and slow.
