I like Scooter DHing to rest his ailing shoulder.
I like Winker and his high OBP in left and I like Schebler leading off.

Going to me a tough one tonight but I like the fact that none of the Indians have faced Romano and I think Bauer is due a bad outing.

Really like the pitching matchup tomorrow and I think Mahle will be going for the Sweep....Reds 5 Indians 4

He could easily be sent down after tonight's game and be replaced by a reliever or bench player, because this is his last scheduled start before the All-Star Break.

Winker walks. That was unexpected.

Bauer does that. He’ll look unhittable for a stretch, then without warning he’ll brain fart which leads to unnecessary pitches and runs. It’s what keeps him from being in the elite top tier of pitchers.

Kc61
07-10-2018, 07:40 PM
Not only is Sal’s grounder rate lower than it needs to be, but his fastball values (Fangraphs) are well down this season as compared to last.

Again, sophomore slumps are not uncommon, but unlike Castillo Sal just seems so hittable right now.

Reds need to change something with him, whether it’s AAA for awhile, skipping a couple of starts, whatever. Needs some time to work on things, maybe rest, get back to basics.

Average K rate for NL starters is currently 8.31. Coming into tonight Romano had 6.92. Probably a tad lower now. Of 38 qualified starters in the NL, Sal is 30th in K/9.

He can succeed with that K rate, some good pitchers do, but it requires better command than he’s shown this year. Has to stay down in the zone, little margin for error.

Mike leake has multiple breaking balls that are way better then the one that Sal has not to mention way better control. I like Sal, I think he can be a back end innings eater but hes not there yet. I'd personally like to see Stephenson up here who we all know has better potential and unfortunately no options left. Sal could use some AAA seasoning.

It's been very impressive seeing Trevor Bauer pitch tonight. I see correlations between him and what the Reds should be able to get for Scooter. Bauer was one of three players the Indians received for trading a yr rental of Choo to the Reds. (The 28 yr old utility INF they threw in is insignificant.) Bauer was a 21 yr old who's already had a taste of the majors. Why can't we get something like that for Scooter? All I hear mentioned are projects in A Ball

Pitching is different today. It’s the unusual starter who succeeds without a good K rate. The average NL pitcher today averages 8.6 Ks per nine innings. That’s almost a K per inning. That’s the average. Average starter just a touch lower, 8.31.

Blandino is thinking the runner on 2nd is trying for 3rd on a ball that is well ahead of him, the classic rule is for the runner to stay put at 2nd. It is a very dumb(if he is out), aggressive base-running move that that they could afford to do with a 4 run lead. Blandino is trying to thwart the aggressive move and made a perfect throw for a tag play, right on the bag and a foot above it. If Suarez catches the ball it is an easy out from there. Really it is like a stolen base attempt, with the ball beating the runner by quite a margin. So there should have been no error if it doesn't get away enough to let Encarnation to get to 2nd. Once he goes from 1st to 2nd, it has to be an error, like a good throw from the outfield that gets away from the catcher, someone has to have the error, and it was given to Blandino. I actually think Suarez more deserved it than Blandino. I thought it was an excellent decision to throw there and Blandino executed the throw perfectly for the tag play. If the tag is made it is dumb by the runner and a great play and decision by the SS, and if not it is dumb by the SS and a great aggressive play and decision by the runner. The Indians could afford to be aggressive and the Reds had no reason to not try to thwart it and quash the aggression.

Trevor Bauer postgame interview was very good. They asked him how he felt he pitched tonight, and he said, "Great!" Then he said that he mixed his pitches because the Reds like first-pitch fastballs, so he tried to keep them off balance, and he and catcher Roberto Perez were on the same page. He was very complimentary of Joey Votto. He said Votto is a great hitter who is very intelligent and does a lot of preparation with film, and he looked forward to the opportunity to face him. He said that he knows him a little bit, and he thought that a couple of the swings Votto took to ruin good pitches were "funny". He also said that he likes facing the Reds because there is familiarity because of Spring Training, but no animosity, and he thinks that makes the game more fun.

That was also discussed in the Tribe postgame interview. Turns out there was a miscommunication between the dugout and the bullpen. Francona wanted "OP" (Oliver Perez) to warm up, but the bullpen thought he said, "OT" (Otero). He was confused when the bullpen door opened, and Perez didn't come out. Not the same. This was a 4-run lead in the 9th with 2 outs and then 7 runs were scored. Not the same thing at all.

Momentum is everything in baseball and every other sport or sales job, absolutely everything. Didn't you just listen to Votto tell everyone how he keeps waiting for "that feeling" and then his power will follow?

Momentum is far from the correct word anyway to describe what happened. We aren't talking about momentum here.

There is too much randomness in baseball for momentum to be everything IMO.

I was just looking at the boxscore on Gameday, and the error on Blandino has been changed to an error on Suarez. So Suarez had both errors in the game.

That was a warranted change.

Once Votto got up it was gonna be tied at worst. They had their chances. After 1 pitch could Francona had removed him for OP?

Regardless Votto was 4/13 .308 with HR and 6 RBI vs OP....before that AB he was 0-4 vs Otero

It was moo. [emoji41]

So the Indians were screwed over by that MLB rule that prevents actually saying a players name instead of initials?

What happened to the days of the manager going out to the mound and patting his left or right arm depending upon whether he wanted the right or left hander?
