Hope to see a lot of Ervin the rest of the way (if Winker is indeed out for year)

Would like to see Billy steal a couple bases when needed.

Pretty awesome that Suarez is playing both 3rd and starting on the mound for the other team.

Just not sure what he is going to do when his batting spot comes up...maybe throw it up to himself and hit?

Three first inning runs are going to be tough to beat considering the Phillies pitcher is making his MLB debut, thus guaranteeing he will pitch at least 7 no hit innings.

Is it something mental with Mahle that he seems completely unable to put a hitter away once he has them at 2 strikes?

Is it something mental with Mahle that he seems completely unable to put a hitter away once he has them at 2 strikes?

It could be. You get a little extra energy and start squeezing the ball or overthrowing instead of trusting your technique and talent. It happens with a lot of players at all levels. It's overcome by experience and learning to trust your stuff.

Look up the Pitching Ninja. He describes something called "tunneling", where the really good pitchers' put-away pitches are hard to distinguish from their fastballs, thus generating swinging strikeouts.

Mahle apparently lacks this ability.

Joey down to .842

How high can he get it by the end? 1.000 isn’t out but .950 seems more of a good goal. Might he “only” be a .900-.915 guy this year?

I kind of hope he has been playing through an injury or something because this is the worst I can remember him looking in a while. He still gets on base but he just hasn't looked like Votto much of this year. I'm not sure he gets to a .900 ops this year. Hope the hot streak is coming but one of these years it's just not going to come.

He was blocked out a bit by Suarez. Likely couldn't tell how far it got away, so he wasn't going to get a great jump. Rather be safe than sorry with Suarez at the plate in that situation. If he went towards 2nd late and got thrown out, they'd still be talking about it.
