Someone who gets the privilege of seeing this game, please report on the Defense of the Duvall/Williams/Ervin Outfield. Looking forward to this group. It's just there first time together, so take that into consideration.

Let the conspiracy theories begin...."Is Hamilton on verge of being traded to Cleveland?"

Or, Mason Williams needs to be given the opportunity to replace him so he can come off the bench if we can't find a decent return for him. I'd rather keep him as a dynamic bench player.

Anyone know if Williams can actually play an average CF?

Yes, he can. But, very interested in how this trio looks together covering the outfield. None of the three are below average.

If trading Hamilton meant more $ on pitching next season...count me in. With Cleveland's outfield situation, I would figure Billy to fetch a decent return too...

Duvall has 2 HR's in 5 AB's vs this pitcher.

Casali is having a good stint with the REDS. Starting gives him more than a PH-look, same for Williams. Ervin is doing very well since this last recall.

That's a formidable middle of the lineup. Castillo is missing way off the plate.

Well pitched inning for Castillo, as he didn't look to have good control, could have used a little help on Rhy, yet escaped with no runs given up. Castillo needs excellent Defense behind him today, though 2 K's in the 1st is a good sign.

Reds hitters 4-6 go quickly.

Weird Herrera and Davis can't get in lineup but Williams is pretty much a regular now.

Santana beats the shift with a sharp single but Cabrera flies to CF.

Herrera pops out. Strikes out Hoskins. 53 pitches thru 3

Castillo is working the "work fast, change speeds, throw strikes" adage to perfection today.

That said, he's lost his arm slot on a couple pitches in the 7th, which tells me he's starting to tire.

Tom Servo

Also just wanna point out that THAT is how to properly teach someone to "go deeper into games", when they're at 86 pitches going into the 7th. Not when they're already around 100. Price never got that.

JaxRed
07-29-2018, 03:07 PM

Billy singled. Peraza lazy fly out. Scooter gets a slow roller to go thru for single. 1st and 3rd one out. Joey up.

Pitching befuddles me, because it's never clear to me why a pitcher is being effective or not. Sometimes a guy will look like he's tossing batting practice meatballs and batters will continuously beat the ball into the ground or swing right through...the next outing the same apparent stuff will get hammered.

Look at the movement of the pitches and at how hard the outs are being made. Good movement and weak contact means the pitcher is on. Not so good movement and hard outs means the pitcher is getting lucky. Castillo was definitely on today.

If there's one thing I think we don't praise the Williams FO enough on it's how good they are at dumpster diving.

Williams is looking like a solid pickup. I think Casali has made his argument to be our permanent backup catcher. The Harvey acquisition has been great. Of course you've got Scooter and Straily.

For a team with our budget that is such a good skill to have. Wayne Krivsky would be proud.

I only got to see the bottom of the 9th from when Iglesias came in. So I'll take credit for the save too. :D

Good series win against a first place team. With the Tigers next and a struggling Nationals team after that the Reds have a good shot at keeping this winning ways going.

Just the little I have seen I like this Williams kid. I might keep him instead of Ervin when Schebler comes back. I believe he might give the Reds just a little more pop off the bench.
