Since the Reds are facing Kluber, one of my favorite stats
Highest career OPS vs pitchers who won a Cy Young Award in their career
Ted Williams 1.100
Chipper Jones 1.013
Joey Votto 1.001
Mike Trout .970
Jim Thome .966
Barry Bonds .953

Kluber vs Romano. I wonder who I should bet on tonight?

Three batters
One run and runners on second and third
Might be a short night for all

is this bad, should you not let the first 5 guys reach and 3 score

yes, With Kluber pitching it could already be over. The Reds haven't hit much since losing Winker & Schebler.

Ok Romano out, Mahle out, now that leaves us with Harvey(most likely out), Bailey(hope he’s out), Castillo (should be in) and Disco in. Looks like we need 3 starters, with at least one top end starter. Corbin would be nice.

When the Reds scout their pitchers to be, I wonder if they look at anything besides arm strength. They throw hard, but don't know how to pitch.

Constable Corbin would be an improvement at this point.

Yep. Peraza has been ok, but without Winker and Schebler outside of Votto, Scooter and Suarez this offense is a giant black hole. And Votto and Scooter both seem to be banged up and struggling.

Well the Reds are officially unwatchable again. It was a nice 6 week span when it lasted but...

It does appear as if Winker is more valuable than we gave him credit for

I don't see the harm in sitting Scooter for a few days and letting Dilson play. This is a "con" on Riggleman's pro/con list to being rehired for next yr

You can't fire the players so I say fire the coaches. Darwin has not gotten improvement from any of these guys

The entire org seems to be full of these types, with little else. A bunch of hard-throwers who can't find the plate and tease you non-stop. I know it's all the rage these days (power arms), but maybe "has control issues" should be more of a concern to them?

Schebler is constantly hurt, outside of last year, not sure you can ever count on him for a full season, 2017 seems like a freak accident. I hope Winker doesn't prove to have the same problem.

That doesn't seem really fair. This year has been frustrating but he was healthy for all of 2016 and missed only two weeks in 2017.

I’d argue he is either hurt often or yet to be proven as a .800 OPS bat.

Saying he is not injury prone but yet a .800 OPS bat seems to try to have it both ways.

Not arguing with you, but whichever way you (I) view him, he’s not a proven commodity.

That 6 winning run stretch may end up setting us back even farther. Our owner is like a child. There were a handful of teams who absolutely 100% needed to makes some moves at the deadline and the Reds were towards the top of that list. Just baffling.

I know it's been a big point with others but I'm really not into the whole ".800 OPS as a threshold" thing. All I said the other day is that he had an .802 OPS over the last two seasons, which he does.

I simply don't see Schebler as any kind of problem that needs to be addressed. He's cheap and productive, "proven" doesn't need to factor in. The injuries this year are obviously concerning but I'm not throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Sea Ray

Nothing wrong with bringing in more competition for Schebler but he's not so bad that we need to release valuable resources in order to acquire a replacement. This team has shown that it has a starting 8 that can compete with the big boys. Granted CF needs help, but this is piddly stuff compared to the holes in the pitching staff.

He only missed two weeks but he did have that injury that turned him into a massive black hole of suck for like a month, which I’m pretty sure was also a shoulder thing wasn’t it?

I get that but do all of our pitchers really suck? Cingrani instantly found a role on a contender after leaving here.

I know. That .800 OPS has kinda been the line drawn in the sand for him. It wasn’t drawn by me but if he wants to be that “thumper” he’s gotta elevate his hitting numbers a touch. Other than that, and maybe you’ve said it before, he’s on the path to being just “a guy.”

And when you have “a guy” who suddenly is hurt/nicked up a bunch, well, he could get replaced. Not a problem certainly, but not a safe job either.

A lot of guys that leave Cincy are never heard from again, which is sad in its own way.

I'd agree with that. He's not someone you wait around forever with. But I just think the discourse is getting too much into "forget about him" and it's really just based on the sin of missing some time in 2018.
