I think Homer is either crazy good (8 inn, 1 ER) or just gets thrashed 3 inn 7 runs

I haven't looked, but I'd bet the Brewers' farm system is nowhere near what it was this time last year.

Signing Suarez to the club friendly 7 year 66 Million Dollar contract back in March was one of the best contracts the Reds have given out in a long time.
Similar to when the Cubs signed Rizzo, but the Cubs only had to give Rizzo $41 Million over 7 years, he had only shown "promise" up to that point.
Suarez had some what of a break out season last year, which pretty much gave him the extra $25 Million.
But locking up Suarez for the next 7 seasons plus a club option for an 8th season for under $10 Million per season was huge.

Just imagine if the Reds had not blown the Cueto and Chapman trades?
The Reds could have the #1 farm system in baseball.
Cueto was a top 5 pitcher in MLB at the time. Verlander wasn't that good, Scherzer wasn't the sure fire Cy Young he is now, etc..
When the White Sox traded Chris Sale, even if they had only received Kopech, Basabe, & and Diaz for Sale, no one would have thought twice.
But on top of all that, they got the #1 prospect in all of baseball at the time Moncada as well.
And yet somehow all the Reds received for Cueto was 3 random left handed pitchers in the Royals farm system.
And then gave away Chapman for a hot dog, meanwhile about 6 months later the Yankees turned around and traded the same guy for the Cubs #1 prospect Gleyber Torres.
It's crazy.

I hear what you're saying, but I'm done talking about the Cueto and Chapman trades.

I will say, that I think that if the Reds acquire some pitching this off-season, they'll be better positioned to get to the playoffs than the Brewers will over the next 5 or so years.

Corbin could be had! He’s great friends with David Hernandez. In fact he was as in his wedding. I’m sure he would give it some thought!!

Ok....gonna lose for sure now but did everyone see what I just saw? Ervin hit the cutoff perfectly from a decent distance and Scooter made a strong throw home that didn’t short hop the catcher, but on bad side Hughes is abnormally bleh tonight

Since the Reds are so bad (1-16) when Bailey pitches, might as well jettison him.

Homer Bailey has fallen into Jim Merritt territory. In the first year I kept up with baseball,1971, Jim Merritt went 1-11 for the Reds. The lone win, incidentally, was the first major league game I ever attended. Like Bailey, Merritt was trying to come back from arm injuries and was never the same after his 20 win season in 1970. The Reds finally gave up on him in 1972 and traded him to Texas for Hal King, who had his 15 minutes of fame in 1973. Merritt won a few games in Texas and then was found out to be throwing a spitter. IIRC after he was found out he never had any further success in the majors. So maybe Bailey should try throwing a spitter and see if he can change his fortunes and maybe get away with it unlike Merritt. It couldn't hurt because he is going nowhere in this comeback attempt in 2018.

Well it was going to happen sooner or later!! Not a fan of Bailey!!

He appeared to be pitching pretty well but his location when he had 2 strikes and 0 or 1 balls was like playing with fire. Those pitches should have been out of the zone.
