A couple of thought before today's Titanic Struggle...

1. I'm sure Jim Day is a fine person, but as an analyst, he is just horrible. I just wonder who he knows that got him his job? His personality isn't even good for TV on Reds Live, much less actually letting him call games. Chris Welsh has to correct him at least 3 times per game, he STILL knows absolutely nothing about baseball even though he is around it day in and day out, and you can tell he was probably picked on as a kid. He needs to understand the unwritten rule that certain home run calls belong to certain announcers. Like "Big Fly!" belongs to the Angel's play by play man, one I've heard him use more than once. He needs his own home run call, he sounds so lost as it is and it makes it even worse having a different home run call every time. Even George Grande patented "It's gonna beeeeeeeeee GONE!"

2. Continuing to plug Billy Hamilton into the lead off spot just says we are still not committed to winning. I don't care if he is hitting .600 over his last 20 games.

3. Who were the last Redlegs to win the RBI or Batting Titles? We have a shot at winning both.

4. I really thought Senzel would be called up. But I guess it's smart not starting his service time yet. But he has to come up sooner or later.

Senzel is out with an injured/surgically repaired index finger.

If Billy were batting .600 over his last 20, they'd be fools for not batting him leadoff.

I personally enjoy Jim Day.

Disco flirting with trouble to start the 4th. Grazes Ozuna with a pitch, and then gives up liner to put two on. Wisdom fouls out. 1 down.

Bader lines a double down third. One rin scores.

Wandy up which makes me wonder if Riggleman has money on the Cards today.

Garcia bunts in a run. Infield was way back. 2-2

Why would Sims have had his start skipped on Friday if he was going to replace Bailey? He wasn't going to replace him, not sure why anybody thought that was a possibility.

Really smart play by Bader that was negated by stupid play by whoever was on third. Bader runs thru second and beats the throw. Gets called out. Would have been overturned, but runner on third never went home. Scooter has them throw home to force the runner at home, meaning Cards can't appeal the play.

Billy has been hitting recently, and another good day at the plate today.
I believe he has been robbed of 2 gold gloves already in his career, and he should absolutely win his first this season.
I love how hard he plays, and NO ONE busts their tail out of the box like Billy does.
And he is prob the only hitter in baseball that can turn that ground ball into right field into a double.

But I am a realist, no matter how much I like Billy, no team is going to produce a winner with Billy Hamilton leading off daily.

Hughes is really fading down the stretch. It’s not like he has pitched even that much for a reliever In my estimate.
I know I look at relievers who pitched 60-70 games and threw 70-90 innings but really unless he’s just going back to his level. Which is ok. He should not be that tired. I mean only this pitching staff could wear out relievers with an 7 to 8 man bullpen staff.

Preston Tucker traded back to Braves. Did we win that trade or what?

The Reds kicked the tires and took him for a spin around the block, but he wasn't a very good fit for this club, especially once Schebler returned to action.

Ervin and Williams both bring more to the club than Tucker, as they both have been more productive at the plate and can play all three OF positions (a valuable skill for reserve OF's), while Tucker is limited to LF only. Even Dixon seemed to move ahead of Tucker on the OF depth chart in the last week or two.
