Long, stressful first but Mahle escapes unscathed.

Padres load'em up in the first on a single and 2 walks, but cannot dent the scoreboard. Mahle throws 26 pitches.

Who's been a bigger disappointment Mahle or Castillo?

Mahle's velocity seems down. He is working 89-91 with his fastball.

Tyler up over 70 pitches with 2 outs in the third.

I think every starting pitcher had given up 20 home runs thus year! Awful and Mahle left off where he ended!

Who's been a bigger disappointment Mahle or Castillo?

It's a tie! Both have been very inconsistent! I'd probably if I had to choose it would be Mahle.

Austin Hedges, isn't he the brother of designer cigarette Benson?

Mahle’s stuff seems quite diminished from earlier this season. Is he injured, or fatigued, or is there a mechanical problem? Something is obviously different.

I’m no great Lucas Sims fan, but his stuff seems better than Mahle’s today.

Edit: Sims not very effective either, 434 foot homer hit against him. What a pitching staff, hard to believe, really.

Mahle is out after 3 innings. That didn't work out so well. Lucas Sims is on.

Gabriel Guerrero has made 3 plate appearances, striking out all 3 times. Welcome to the Show, Rookie.

Good thing they took Homer out of the rotation. Glad to see the Reds scoring runs now that he's no longer pitching.

We’ve uncovered Homer’s RZ account.

Glad to see you stomping on Sims. Those 4 innings he’s pitched for the Reds is more than enough time to decide he’s worthless. On to the next one.

And to think... we actually traded Frank Robinson before he REALLY got good.

And to think... we actually traded Frank Robinson before he REALLY got good.

Robby had something like 8 of 9 of his highest OPS seasons with the Reds. Thing is, he was so good that the age 30+ drop off still had him better than most of the rest of the league.

Votto heating up at just the right time.

Can he dominate and get to .900 OPS

I remember him as being pretty good. 1961 he was really good.

All Williams needed was to bunt it fair to the 3B, why bunt it close to the line and give it a chance to go foul?

Looks like the Reds offense has slipped to last season's low level of being able to score after a lead-off doubles!

I don't think the Reds players would be too excited tonight to follow the old baseball conventional strategy of playing for a tie, and then win it in extra innings!

Yes, good point. Former Arizona State SunDevil, Mike Leake, has given up 21 home runs in 17 of his 28 game starts. Leake is (5-6) when he has given up a home run.

Just what you would have thought from two last place clubs, they split a four game series.

Has a team ever had more non progress from a batch of starting pitchers than the Reds? No one has made any progress this year. Most have regressed.
