I know like 2 players in the Marlins' lineup...but that is probably what opposing fans think upon seeing the Reds lineup.

Reed looks good so far. Confidently throwing strikes.

I know Rojas and Castro...is that bad?

The Reds have 3 all-stars, a gold glover, and a guy in BHam who has good name recognition due to his constant highlight plays. Marlins have a catcher who is constantly rumored to be getting dealt and Dan Straily.

I wonder if Hamilton stealing has lead to more catcher throwing errors than other base runners?

Maybe...I found that even good players are overlooked in flyover country.

I doubt many regular people know the name of "Scooter Gannet."

I've at least heard of every name in the Marlins lineup before except for Isaac Galloway.

Nice...still scoreless.

I know it's hard to buy-in, but I hope something has clicked with Reed.

I just crack up at how every time a new rookie comes up to MLB and does well, people start freaking out "Oh he's the greatest ever!"
Comparing these players to Mays, Mantle, and Musial. It's hilarious.
I'm not taking anything away from Acuna Jr, Soto, Ohtani, Gleyber Torres, or any other player.
But after these guys are in the majors for a year or so, they will get charted, scouted, etc..
And they will all come back down to earth like 99% do.
It's no different than when Jay Bruce made his debut, Yasiel Puig, etc, so many get called up and burn it up for a while.
And then all of a sudden it's like "What happened to that guy?"
There are only a hand full of Trout's, Votto's, and Mookie's out there. Who plays like an all star or mvp for 10+ years.

Big start for Reed today.
I was ready to send him to A ball and just let him flame out.
But he has really showed me a little something lately.
His slider looks good, not walking guys like he was, actually hitting spots. I like it.
He could be a decent #4 or #5 next season if he keeps improving and puts in the work this winter.

Francisco Lindor just hit his 36 HR on the season, a line drive that went out of the park faster than any other I have ever seen

Ozzie Albies another great example.

Ozzie Albies another great example.

Those guys are not the same as Jay Bruce. Bruce was averag-ish for his first few seasons. Soto and and Acuna are putting up OPS+'s of 150...as teenagers. Bruce topped at at 124 at his peak.

Nobody should say they are locks for the HOF, but they are special.

Riddle me this: can we look at Reed as a serious rotation candidate for 2019 based upon pitching well against the Marlins?

Doesn't bother me that it's the Marlins...You still have to be decent to dominate a AAAA team.

I would be disappointed to say the least if he opened next year in the rotation. But I assume he has options, so it wouldn't be a bad thing to have him 6th or 7th on the depth chart showing some promise.

His stuff looks good today. Movement and location.

Perhaps you have forgotten about his 10 strikeout performance against the Cubs last week.

Isn't that what we are looking for?

I pencil Reed into the 2019 rotation as a No.5 with it being his spot to lose.

Lee May's other grandson Jacob (who went to my alma mater Lakota West) is now a FA, as he was released by the White Sox in July.

Yeah, I don't get pulling Reed there

Trying to insure Reed leaves with high confidence and satisfaction with a 4-0 lead thru 6, and guarding against a quick blow-up in the 7th to ruin his psyche.

If I recall correctly, it was after the ‘94 strike was when ballplayers started throwing balls in the stands as a goodwill gesture. Before that, the only time you got a ball was when one was hit in the stands. Rarely did a player chuck a ball to a fan.

I considered that but he was dealing and another inning would boost it more. Then again we are not privy to what's being seen/ said in the dugout, so give the hook the benefit of the doubt.

IIRC, last season Stephenson did really well the last six weeks or so and we all thought he would be a lock rotation this season. It didn't work out that way. So I will hold off on anointing Reed a starters spot in 2019 just yet. I do hope he is turning a corner and found the magic to be a good starting pitcher. The Reds surely need it as I don't expect them to spend the $$$ to find any better out on the market.

Unlike prior seasons, Williams has gone on the record saying they will be looking to bring in pitching from outside the organization.

"I would say we are more outwardly focused this year due to where we sit from a budget standpoint," Williams told MLB.com. "Whether that's free agency or trades has yet to be determined. We will be prepared to pursue both. We do think that will be an area that's important to supplement."
