Interesting article about how sports teams define sellouts.

Why go to the event when you can watch it on TV. About 5 steps and I can be to my "beer-rator", snacks and such. Lot cheaper than attending the event.

I think one ballpark trend over the next 30-40 years will be fewer seats for just this reason.

A couple of months ago, I was at East Lake on Sunday watching Tiger nail down the Tour Championship.
On Saturday, my daughter and I were in Ohio Stadium watching the historic demolition of M*ch*gan.
Two unbelievable experiences I’ll remember the rest of my life.
Moreso than if I’d sat on my very comfortable sofa, watching my 60” tv and snacking out of my own refrigerator.

I have already seen it in NASCAR.

Oddly, you know less of what is going on when you are at the game. Being at the game might be a better experience, but watching it on TV is a better way to watch the game. I got to almost every UC football home game, and a few of the away games too. I probably know less about what is going on than the people at home.

Less as far as very, very, very few things.
You get a much accurate picture of what's going on. No matter what the camera angle is at any event, it's a distorted and incomplete version of what's actually happening. I will always take someone's analysis of an event of a situation if they were actually there over anyone viewing it from a media screen. They simply don't get an accurate version of what's going on.

I got a buddy that is a Bears season ticket holder. I can count on him calling me every home game to ask me what I just saw on TV. And multiple times during a game. I am in my cozy La-Z-Boy, sipping on a beer, and a plate of nachos on the end table. But I have a better view than he does and I saved a boat load of money.

Maybe he's drinking too much or has endzone views. Both are distortions.

Nah, you just got some old school thinking trapped in your head. I have no idea why a guy went to the locker room. Half the time I can't hear what the penalty was. Why are they reviewing the play? Was that a catch or not? They have zoomed in camera views. I have a split second while the person next to me is getting up for the 8th time to do whatever. I love going to the game, for the atmosphere. The person at home has more information.

The only answer to this is that it's obvious that every fan has a different aptitude in their ability to assess the information that's right before their eyes.

And it is easier to access it watching the event on TV.

Which is my Spouse's choice. She'd rather access the event from the comfort of home. I'd rather assess the event live.
