Good first inning for Disco.

I hate it when both teams wear Red.... Disco gets them in order.

Scooter, Votto and Kemp go in order.

There may be those who disagree but I really hope Winker wins the starting job over Kemp.

Disco gives up a double to Adel with one out but gets out with no runs to preserve 0.00 ERA.

Suarez grounds out, Puig K's swinging, Schebler walks (He's become mister base on balls this spring). He steals 2nd, and Tcuker walks, but Trahan gets out.

0-0

Castillo coming in to pitch.

Daggone it! Why are not broadcasting this live on TV somewhere? Just sat down planning on watching it. Blue Jackets hockey and NASCAR on Fox. I don’t care.

I didn't see it but did Castillo not head over to first when he should have? Angels announcers were saying he seemed to think that Votto caught that ball and the runner was out

He didn't cover in time and yeah it seemed to be because he thought Votto caught it.

JaxRed

And it costs him a run.

well that's discouraging. Two run bomb by Bour off of Castillo.

well that's discouraging. Two run bomb by Bour off of Castillo.

And bomb is an understatement....

So infield single because he didn't cover, steal, goes tro third on infield out, scores on single thru drawn-in infield. And Bourn crushes one. 3-0 Angels.

Castillo with 18.00 ERA. I assume he'll go one more inning.

Between the mental error not covering first and the HR, that inning looked a lot like last year's first half Castillo.

Hopefully getting it out of his system in spring training.

I had this thought..... option him till July 4th....? Just warm weather pitcher? (mostly kidding)

Aquino lines a double in left center, and Jo Adell ambles after it casually, dreaming about his prospect ranking, so Aquino stretches it to triple. Then Scooter walks. Aquino has almost been picked off 3rd twice.

Votto K's, was fooled badly. Kemp K's swinging, and Suarez K's. Well... that was sub-optimal.

Reds have left approximately 33,000 men on base so far this spring

Starting to think this should be a competition between Castillo and Mahle for the rotation. Can’t afford another crappy April/May from Castillo. Every game counts in the 4 team race for the central

No way...Castillo was better than Malhe last year, including his slow start. Castillo is better right now and has a higher upside.

I understand but Castillo needs to have better command. Mahle was throwing darts last night. If he’s not ready by April and Mahle is then Luis should spend some time sharpening in AAA.

Puig K's and Scheb goes oppo for single. Barnhart grounds out and Trahan flies out.

Forgot Castillo only got 2 outs, so ERA 20.25.

Reed in and K's Bour. But next guys fists one just over SS and then Adell grounds one down 3rd for double scoring a run. Suarez was over at SS position because of shift. Next guy goes oppo for double. Pure double but Kemp was not exactly a gazelle going after it. Then wild pitch.

7-0.

Next guy bloops double that Hamilton would have had, but Schendler can't quite get it, and then a long triple.

9-0. Reed trying to catch Castillo's ERA.

Wild pitch for a run then a homer

11-0

Reed passes Castillo with 23.63 ERA

Finally a ground out. 21.00 ERA

NebraskaRed

For those wondering, it is 11-0 in the 5th inning

Reed giving up 6 runs

A bloop hit and a double that would have been a routine out had the shift not been in play and then the Yips show themselves again. Same old Reed. Cody needs a fresh start. I still think he can be good, but probably not in Cincy.

I'm hoping a change of scenery trade where he's thrown in a deal for a big league upgrade somewhere. Reed, Wandy and Ervin for Tony Watson. Watson would be the top lefty in the pen.

Mahle was way better than Castillo in the first half last year. So Mahle starting with the Reds may not be the worst idea.

Castillo issue seems to be that he is way better out of the wind up than the stretch.

Mahle wasn't better than Castillo at any point last year. Even when he was pitching well, his FIP was still over 5.

Is Disco's spot so secure that Mahle can't take it?

Probably not, but Disco has a 0.00 ERA for the spring also, with lower WHIP, and avg. Our 5 starters:

1. Gray - "injured"... yet to pitch
2. Woods - 27.00 ERA after 1 inning
3. Roark - 3.86 ERA
4. Castillo - 20.25 ERA after 2.2 innings
5. Disco - 0.00 ERA

So it would not seem based on the early going that Disco is the most vulnerable. (That could change in a blink of the eye with small sample size).

I suspect everyone outside the top five is pitching to be first on deck for when a slot opens up.
