Castillo needs a good game. Off to good start K's first hitter swinging.

NebraskaRed

other than Casali, this is looking like the opening day lineup

not sure about Kemp

JaxRed

No one gets ball out of infield. Interesting stat shown in that Reds starters this week have not given up a walk.

Kluber gets Scooter looking to lower his spring ERA to 7.36

NebraskaRed

Votto still batting 2nd makes me think it's less about getting him ABs and more about where he'll hit during the season

Big Klu

The patch says the Reds are "the first team to wear green".

What about the Oakland A's?

NebraskaRed
03-17-2019, 04:24 PM
Good first inning for Castillo, now a single and a walk to start the 2nd

Meanwhile Castillo’s is over 17

Hopefully, Puig will hit the cutoff man in the regular season. Maybe he's just working on his throws to the plate in the spring.

JaxRed
03-17-2019, 04:33 PM
Not a good inning for Castillo. Gives up bloop single. Then walks a guy, double down the line, a line single to score two (terrible throw by Puig), and the third run scores on ground out.

What's the record for catcher's interference calls in spring training?

Burger Beer
03-17-2019, 04:37 PM
Hmm... Catcher's interference again. Against Senzel this time.

Big Klu
03-17-2019, 04:38 PM
I don't think I've ever seen two catcher's interference calls in the same game before.

NebraskaRed
03-17-2019, 04:38 PM
man Senzel is fast

JaxRed
03-17-2019, 04:41 PM
Senzel steals second but is stranded. Reds have no hitters reach against Kluber but 2 have reached on the catcher.

Burger Beer
03-17-2019, 04:43 PM
man Senzel is fast

I was one of the "Billy scores more often even though he gets on base less, and nobody is as good defensively" guys.

Senzel is converting me.

Burger Beer
03-17-2019, 04:46 PM
And then Senzel did not call off Puig. Sigh.

NebraskaRed

JaxRed
03-17-2019, 04:47 PM
And then Senzel did not call off Puig. Sigh.

I think that is Puig's fault. Be interesting to hear if they discuss that after the game. Sure looked like Puig called him off.

Burger Beer

Rookie mistake. Gotta know who's the quarterback out there.

Big Klu
03-17-2019, 04:48 PM
No, that is on the CF. He has to assert himself on that play.

JaxRed
03-17-2019, 04:50 PM
Senzel was looking straight into the sun. Puig had the good angle. LIke to hear if Puig called him off or if Senzel just bailed.

NebraskaRed

Nice job by Castillo not letting any runs score.

JaxRed
03-17-2019, 04:51 PM
Reds not DHing again.

Burger Beer
03-17-2019, 04:52 PM
Castillo at 53 pitches after 3. Good to practice adversity, even if it ain't all your fault.

There’s one Reds starter who is not pitching well this spring. He has options, let him start in Louisville til he gets a rhythm and then call him up otherwise it will be a repeat of last year

I liked Kemp's body language going into the dugout--just shake it off. Didn't care much for Puig's--shaking his head in disgust.

Kemp seems to be all-in.

An aspect of Matt Kemp's game that many at RedsZone tend to overlook is the veteran leadership he brings to the OF. They are largely a young group, and will need experienced guidance.

I interpreted Puig's body language as being disgusted at himself.

That is Senzel's ball and his responsibility to call Puig off. But I don't blame him for bailing and making sure he doesn't get trucked in an exhibition game.

Yes, it was noted somewhere that during a defensive drill on the back fields that he was unhappy at not having a right fielder for the drill when Puig was late. And I've seen a couple very little things while watching today.

Maybe I misinterpreted, by my impression of Puig's gesture was to show-up the rookie. Again, maybe I'm wrong.

On Ramirez, Duke dropped down to sidearm and absolutely ate him up.

Matt Bowman is an interesting guy. He had a pretty bad 2018, but a pretty solid career until then. I was surprised how quickly the Cardinals cut ties with him.

We've been pretty healthy. Even Stephenson threw a B game. I'd like to see him tomorrow. I assume he felt no ill effects.

Shows some very, very good speed.

Graterol looks like Clu Haywood from Major League.

That Grand Slam by Puig was awesome.

On the slow-mo you can tell he didn’t time the pitch just right but he still powered it out of the yard.
