Senzel was a pure experiment when the offseason began, the Reds still should have found another CF'er to compete alongside him and Schebler.
Oh well, all winter I read posts saying CF is easy - we're going to see how easy it is tonight.

...or, they figure out how to win a 1-run game. I'll take that, too. That's what Veterans (Pitchers and Hitters) learn how to do...whatever it takes to win by a run, whether it's 1-0 or 10-9. Jack Morris was the best I ever saw at that as a Pitcher. Eric Davis was the best I ever saw at that as a Position Player. There's where the bar is set for a CF. Winker is utterly dismal as an overall player compared to him, but if he's out there, bat him first so he can possibly get that 5th plate appearance.
Votto and Winker could easily reach base a combined 5 times tonight. I expect 4, with them scoring 3 runs between them. That won't be enough. Others will have to score, too. We'll need 6+ runs tonight.

In a weird way I am interested to tune in just to see how he looks out there.
Will he be better or worse than Griffey Jr playing CF for the White Sox?

RedsZone was beating the drum for an "analytics" manager when the Reds had Baker, Price, and Riggleman.
Now they have one, and he makes a decision that the populace doesn't agree with, and they go apoplectic.
It wasn't analytics they wanted; they just wanted someone who did what they wanted, and was right 100% of the time.

Again this is the curse of Homer Bailey-- to get rid of him, the Reds took Kemp - Kemp is taking up the roster spot of a backup/4th CF. If only there was a team in Northern Ohio that could use a corner outfielder if someone would pay some of the salary....

I was reading a book about a football coach in the 60's, he had his Offensive and Defensive coordinators switch jobs for a game to try and shakes things up and get things going, they lost 51-0.

Winker is still a young guy. And, although I like his offensive potential, he hasn't done anything so far this year. Putting Winker in center could easily result in an error or two and maybe the deciding runs to lose the game. HOW is it a good idea to mess with the head of a young guy like that?
It would've made more sense to have Puig in center. Then you'd get only one error instead of two.

It's not the Stanford Prison Experiments. He's just playing center field. Winker even played some spring training innings out there.
I get that baseball is a mental game, but we act like they're all a bunch of nut jobs waiting to be triggered. Winker's played thousands of innings in the outfield. A few games in center isn't going to turn him into a basket case.

Well, gosh, I hope not. But, that's not what I was suggesting (I doubt his psyche is that fragile).
Imo, Winker is a modern day Adam Dunn. NO, he'll never have that much power. What I mean is they're both players where ALL of their positive value is from their offensive contributions and ALL of their negative is from their defense. That's not the type of player that a club should take a chance on in center (where defense is really important).

You ABSOLUTELY HAVE to play for the tie with Hader on the mound, give Votto a chance to tie the game with a sac fly. Which he would have done.
I don't care how good we all think Votto is. Right now....Hader is a better pitcher vs left handed batters than Votto is a hitter.
Instead Bell DOES NOT bunt, and the Reds lose in 9 innings.

This dude has pretty much blasted 30 HR per year for a long time when playing every day.
Even with Atlanta and San Diego he still hit the ball out of the ball park.
I honestly thought he would hit a minimum 30 dingers this year while playing 1/2 his game in our GABP launch pad.
But this dude couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat.

This 1-5 start is a shame considering how well our starting and relief pitching both have been.
But then again the Red Sox and Cubs both are off to terrible starts as well.

I think Scheb will eventually come through at lead off, but fine.
How about this thinking? Let’s go back to what guys are used to.
Winker did well hitting sixth during the streak last year. Hit him sixth.
Votto always did well hitting third. Hit him third.
Peraza did well hitting second (I think). Hit him second.
Maybe try to replicate more traditional Reds’ batting orders for those who have been here awhile.

Why do you think Schebler will be a good leadoff hitter?
Even when he wasn't ab absolute nightmare at the plate, he was never a good on-base guy or a speed guy.
