I could go for more Derek Dietrich, especially given the sluggish offense out of the gates. You sacrifice defense, but a lineup Schebler, Barnhart, Iglesias and Peraza just ain't it.

I agree. Would love to see Senzel and Scooter added to the everyday lineup, with Casali getting a more even share of playing time splitting starts with Barnhart.

Agree on Casali as well. I think as the league sees him, he'll likely decline a bit. We know what Tucker is though; a ~.700 OPS bat. Still some reason for optimism with Casali.

Give me a 50/50 share between him and Tucker. (At present, Tucker has 68 PA and Casali 38.)

How many pitches does a starter usually throw in warm up? Here watching Sonny Gray today and he threw for a good 15-20 minutes at a steady pace, must have been close to 100 pitches. Or the equivalent of a full game count.

Just put Iglesias in the leadoff spot already. You can't have a lineup with no power threats after the cleanup spot.

Announcers act like putting Stephenson in bullpen is what magically turned him around. Forgetting 2017 when he was 3.41 as starter in 11 games and 7.43 ERA as reliever in 14 games. If he's pitching like he's capable of, he can succeed in either capacity. And he now looks like's he's getting it together. And at age 26, which means Reds can have about a 4-5 year run from 26-31 (prime years) at a bargain rate.

Stephenson has morphed into a breaking ball pitcher. His fastball wasn’t cutting it (no pun). His excellent slider is now his primary pitch and that’s the short answer to his success.

It would be really amusing to see what any team would give for Schebler. I mean, how low into their list of prospects would they go?

Outfield play is woeful in a lot of places. There are 90 starting positions and only about 50 guys who are starting caliber. Of the rest, there probably aren't 40 better than Schebler. Sad, but true.

Duvall had a terrible year and the Reds got something. They’d get something for Schebler. But in any event, it’s time IMO.

Good times, they were.

Ervin will get some starts, but the real answer is Senzel and Scooter.

The lineup is materially more shallow without those two guys.

Totally agree. We'll be so much better when those 2 are in the lineup but Senzel's a few days/weeks away, and Scooter doesn't have a solid timeline yet. Ervin's not packing any magic beans but he can't do worse and I think Scheb could use a little break to decompress.

Ervin did well last year at AAA, and second half with Reds. He’s almost 27. He’s a first round draft choice. Just give him a chance for this season and then decide on him.

Disagree with Reds’ approach to the OF this year.

If they had Votto, Suarez, Winker, Puig, Gennett, Senzel, I think they’d be ok. In whatever order.

I really don't think they have better option until Senzel is ready, but the idea of a break for Schebler is the best idea right now.

Can't disagree with that either. For all the things the FO did well this offseason, the OF situation has been a buzzkill. Of course we'd feel differently if guys were hitting their weight. But from the lack of a perceptible plan to address CF, to the indecision regarding Senzel, things may have been able to be handled better.

With that said, I truly believe they tried all spring to move Kemp which, when unsuccessful, forced them into the decision they made with Nick. And then the injuries to Nick and Scooter turned an undesirable situation to an ugly one after the 1-8 start.

That's why I keep telling myself- be patient.

Agree, patience is called for. I’ve always viewed this build up as a two-three year effort. At least they are improved in 2019 over 2018, meaningfully.

Trammel is .424 OBA at AA, Van meter is .350 at AAA and has played LF, Senzel could get ready here as well as AAA, so why keep Schebler when he has options. Bass for Duke as well.
