I know you are talking about Winker, but Lefties have a .971 OPS vs Vargas this year. RHB .967.

Suarez 4-7 with 4 RBI vs Vargas. Reds overall pretty good numbers in limited at bats VS Vargas. Jose Iglesias 0 for 8 only bad one.

I may have a slightly different order, but I really like this lineup overall offensively. I like Casali's bat better than Barnharts, and I like almost anyones over Schebler currently.

Bell really needs to pump the brakes on the major lineup shakeups all because of splits. Vargas sucks, just put a normal lineup out there.

People are too invested in the lineup stuff. Just yesterday the anger was at not only having Peraza at the top but playing him at all over Dietrich, and it worked. I'm content that he's playing Winker against a lefty.

I'd look at this lineup as trying to string together some RHH with power against the lefty pitcher.

Van Meter is hot at Louisville with 11 HR, .370 ave and leading the league in power, with 3 HR yesterday. You have to give him a callup in place of Schebler, Ervin or Farmer. Schebler would benefit from AAA time.

I guess it is a step forward that he’s playing, but I think it could be helpful just in general for Bell to let these guys settle in some. To me, as much as Dusty’s lineups were (rightfully) criticized, he let guys settle into their spots in the lineup and I get the feeling that’s one of the things he did in terms of being able to push all the right buttons at times seemingly.

Call him up to cool him off? How's he going to get ab's in Cincinnati? Notice how many ab's Farmer and Ervin have had lately?

Watching the Reds seems like the new pitching coaches are having a major positive impact.

But on the hitting side, you have to wonder what the coaches are telling them.

Players’ responsibility, but lackluster so far.

It’s got to be some kind of lack of prep/tape-watching/buy-in to a win at all costs culture that exists in other franchises. Some organizations/corporations are just, idk, “looser.”

Because he has an idea of pitch selection. Are you watching the location of pitches that nearly every other player is swinging at early in the count? Shoe-top pitches?

I agree, and as soon as he got on with no out, I was thinking pinch runner. I think Votto had in his mind that a while back he was forced out at 2nd when a pop dropped in right field and was not going to have that happen again. I think he knew there were no outs and he especially didn't wasn't to ruin an inning by being forced out at 2nd again on a ball hit in the outfield.
