I’m not complaining about the lineup but I was surprised to see Senzel in the 6 hole.

Bell is already moving Senzel around in the lineup?

Senzel
Votto
Winker
Suarez
Dietrich
Puig
Peraza
Tucker(should be Casali)
Roark

It's not that hard David. Leave the one guy in the lineup with both speed and on base ability(Senzel) at the top of the order.

Votto is hitting .170 with a .278 obp from the lead off spot. Stop this madness.

Throw in Freddy Benavides?? I mean what qualifies him to be a bench coach. Bring in someone who can actually help Bell with his logic or stop him against himself. I really don’t believe Price was worse. He also had a worse roster to deal with.

Note how whopping* makes all the difference..

Yeah for all the criticisms Dusty got for his lineups, I think one of the things he did correctly to get the most out of his guys was to put them in a spot in the lineup and leave them there, so they’d know what their role was most days. I know most of us just look at these guys like they can be plugged and play wherever and that lineup spots don’t really matter, but I don’t buy it. Votto himself said he does like leading off and would like to re-evaluate that move at some point.

I just don’t understand the point in constantly shuffling the lineup around every single night like this. Pick a relatively regular lineup and stick with it.

After last night's debacle and some of the play and decisions I have to rant in preparation for tonight's game. So far I'm not impressed with David Bell. He should've given Gray another inning instead of going with Peralta. I know, the hindsight thing but, I haven't been too impressed with Peralta either. Someone needs to have a talk with Joey Votto. He's intentionally transformed himself from a power hitter that hit for average and could drive the ball consistently to the gaps into a 'Punch and Judy' hitter seemingly looking to walk preferably to anything else. And also that stupid Cricket looking practice swing he does now drives me crazy! It's messing with his (rarely used now) regular swing. $20M a year for 3 hr and 5 rbi 4 days into May is unacceptable. They say Joey is a slow starter. That being the case then hold him out of the lineup until June and let someone play that wants to actually hit the ball. His new approach IS NOT WORKING! See for yourself. Look at YouTube videos of a few years ago and look at videos of last year up to now. The difference is painfully obvious. 0 for 7 last night with 3 k's and 5 lob should be a wake-up call for him to go back to his much more successful approach to hitting.

Other decisions by Bell are questionable too. He also uses the experiment of batting the pitcher 8th sometimes which hasn't proven to be an overwhelming difference maker. He's too quick to pull a starter and too slow to pull an ineffective reliever. Turner Ward is supposed to be this masterful hitting guru. Usually a few hitters are slow out of the gate but, an entire team? For over a month?!!!

I guess I'm just frustrated especially about last night's game. OK, done with rant. GO REDS!!!

Yeah, I'm kind of a new poster and haven't read through a lot of threads so I haven't noticed if it's been discussed or not, but the batting the pitcher 8th thing has always driven me nuts. Why? Do we just think that because Tony LaRussa and Joe Maddon have done it that it must be a brilliant strategy?

I hate to say this since I did not like the Bell higher. But he is a rookie manager he needs to learn what works and what does not work and that will take time. Each manager thinks they are re-inventing the wheel when it does not need to be re-invented. The question is when how long does it take him to learn. Dusty Baker showed that it is not about in game managing(x nad o's) it is people managing. Price never really learned, but Bell might.

Barnhart is the 4th best on the team in OBP which is ideal for the ninth spot. Putting a guy on for your top hitters to knock in.

He's better hitting in front of the pitcher. He has the patience to take the walk when they are pitching around him. Peraza will swing at that off the plate stuff and his speed works in front of the top of the order. He doesn't need the pitcher to sacrifice him to 2B. Barnhart is station to station and, again, works better in front of the pitcher. .

Ehhh.. You're probably right..
From: Reds Reporter via Dead Spin

The car is 502 feet away from home plate and 65 feet above the field level. A little math by the folks at Red Reporter determined that on an average calm day the ball would have to be hit at 134.5 mph off the bat, which is damn near physically impossible. Furthermore, the folks did more math and determined that on a balmy 90-degree day, a strong right-handed hitter with a 15 mph tailwind could maybe get it to the truck. Way to go, Toyota.
