I don’t get it....we’ve been waiting and waiting for Puig to find something and he hits every ball hard yesterday and sits today....I I seems like this happens a lot and even if this day has been planned I think I would adapt on the fly

I agree pick one line up and go with it Bell is trying to over manage everything and it's just making them look silly. And that's why they've underachieved this year there's no reason this team should have a losing record

JCM11
05-05-2019, 11:16 AM
Senzel's third different line up spot in 3 games lol. We just had to get Peraza's bat in the line up so Puig has to sit after murdering the ball last night. I'm ready for Peraza to join Schebler in AAA.

Maybe Puig isn't especially good vs. Samardzja. That's about the only explanation I can imagine giving him the day off here.

Then Kyle Farmer would get starts Bell feels the need to put his stamp on everything

I'm so maddeningly over David Bell already.

These guys have literally no idea whether they'll even be playing from day to day and if so, what spot they'll even be close to in the batting order. People like to know their roles, it's not that hard. Middle of the order bats should not be sitting the pine this much.

Say why you will about Dusty but guys loved playing for him and their roles were consistent. That's like job #1 of a manager.

Phoenix2
05-05-2019, 11:43 AM
Great night last night so naturally you sit Puig today. Don't want to build on what he's started. Over-Managing David Bell at it again.

Kc61
05-05-2019, 12:20 PM
Bell seems to have set off-days for players.

He would respond that he’d be over managing if he cancelled those off-days because of one hot game.

Puig plays virtually every day, I’m sure he will be back tomorrow.

Tony Cloninger

The Starting 8 of the 1969 Cubs would have appreciated the way Bell rested his players.

The whole "planning ahead" thing is ridiculous, IMO. Bell should be behind a desk somewhere. I have no faith in him, whatsoever.

We should have seen this coming. He's stubborn and so won't admit he has had it wrong all along with Peraza over Dietrich at 2B, even though the offense had been dead-in-the-water and Peraza a main reason why.

Now he realizes there could be just a hint of consternation...from fans, maybe the FO or even BOB...with how he totally mangled the game the other night.

So he knows he probably needs to get Dietrich more PT. And, of course, since Peraza has to play, that increased PT will come at the expense of one of the three OFs.

I think there's a biblical verse somewhere describing this sort of thing. Something along the lines of: "You shall know them by their mule-headedness."

Ron Madden

I don’t think giving Puig the day off has anything to do with Peraza.

I don’t have access to a TV or a radio here at work, but I would like to know if Marty or a TV announcer will ask Bell about benching Puig today.
“I am giving him a day off” would be an UNACCEPTABLE answer.

I don’t know, the lineups worked pretty well the last two days, and everyone complained just as much about them.

For the most part lineup constructions are way overrated on their effect on the outcome of a game. However a bad lineup construction and winning are not mutually exclusive. Hell a good team can bat their pitcher first and sit their best player and still win games.

Wished we get the DH just to get this stupid 8th hitting picher out of Bells hands.

Guess it doesn’t matter when micro-manager wants to start double switching in the 5th because his starting pitcher has 80 pitches!

Also, who knows the rule on the Votto drop there?
He tug the runner and the force of his body hitting the glove knocked the ball out.
When is that out versus safe? How long does he need to posess the ball?

I met JR House a few years ago. I knew of him because he was a southern WV high school legend in football....he played high school baseball in Florida. Anyway, I am setting in church, and the pastor announces a visitor, and it was JR. It was after his baseball retirement and time playing football at WVU and he was focusing on some youth ministry stuff. I went back and introduced myself after the service. I thought he was done with baseball at the time.

"It is not a tag, however, if simultaneously or immediately following his touching a base or touching a runner, the fielder drops the ball. In establishing the validity of the tag, the fielder shall hold the ball long enough to prove that he has complete control of the ball. If the fielder has made a tag and drops the ball while in the act of making a throw following the tag, the tag shall be adjudged to have been made."

You have to maintain control of the ball after the tag, whether ball is in your glove or your hand. Votto lost control of the ball, so the runner was not out. However, the runner also missed first base, and Votto had the presence of mind to recover the ball and reapply the tag.

I did not play baseball....I played football....but it goes with any sport. robot umps when

To the folks who complain about all the strike outs, this is a good place for MLB to start. It seems to me that of the calls umps are missing, most of them are like this, in the pitcher's favor. MLB pitching is hard enough to hit. If umps are going to call those pitches (and the first one to Votto) strikes, the hitter has no chance
