Infuriating the lack of consistency in the line up. As a player is must be very frustrating. Familiarity with where you are batting and who you are batting before/after surely helps?

Driving me nuts. I may be off base, but my theory is that batting Votto leadoff is the main reason for his slow start this year. Same might be said for the hitting woes throughout the lineup.

I don't get why he seems to be moving Senzel down to batting 6th against righties I would keep him at leadoff and Votto at batting 2nd for a while I think it is the best spot for both. I also really thought Vanmeter would at least get a start with the DH being used in this series

At least we don't have to worry that the guy leading off is a sure fire power hitter destined to hit 50 HRs a season.. Instead we can rest assured he'll strike out often enough to make the opposing pitcher feel perhaps over confident in his endeavors..

05-07-2019, 04:44 PM

He'll get to pinch hit for the pitcher in a game with the DH in place.. Now THAT'S DB home grown strategy..

Yep. The earlier quote in this thread about Bell just not being able to help himself is spot on.
Senzel should be leading off, end of story. All of his at bats are competitive and he has the speed and instincts to cause some havoc on balls in play that no one else in the lineup does.

yeah, I know that is an issue with the foul territory being so large is the football element....then they added that upper deck Mt. Davis on top for the Raiders. I think they were the last team in MLB that warmed up their relievers right along right and left field....not sure if they ever built modern bullpens. Vegas is an event city Baseball in the summer might be a hard sell for the long run

Unless it's an indoor stadium.. LV in the August sun at 4-5pm? Doesn't sound like a heck of a lot of fun. I remember hitch hiking out in that hot afternoon sun back in the 70s.. I recall filling up my canteen at a restaurant with ice water. By the time I hiked it up the freeway ramp that ice water was already almost warm coffee temperature.. No joke or exaggeration either..

Yes. And they've got big visitor numbers in the summer and have had AAA baseball forever.

And Phoenix has a team. Phoenix people think it's chilly in Vegas in July.

Both too hit for me that time of year, we shall see, brutal winds there at times

That along with Angel freakin' Pagan calling a late timeout in Game 1 (one of my biggest pet peeves in baseball) which immediately preceded Cueto awkwardly stopping his delivery and straining his oblique. Then to add insult to injury, those classy Giants fans cheered raucously as Cueto left the field - giddy as could be that he was injured. All the more reason I've hated that team and their fans ever since.

Imagine that series if Cueto never goes down in Game 1? Latos is fresh for Game 2, Arroyo Game 3, Bailey for Game 4, and most importantly - no need for Mike Leake since Cueto would have been ready for a Game 5 if necessary.

Oh, what could have been.

That one is on Barhart but it's not an easy play. It is what it is. Exactly. A lot of catchers don't field that hop cleanly. After that, it's a split second guess as to whether the runner goes inside or outside. Two good throws, a good grab at the plate. Just fortunate, aggressive baserunning won this time.

Those of you who were catchers of any distinction. I was always taught to chuck your mask once the ball is in play. Tucker left it on. Is that the way guys are taught now? I wonder if he would have had a bit more peripheral vision if he'd taken it off.
