Why are we forcing Farmer into the lineup at positions in the field where he's barely ever played before?

Last night we had Farmer at 2B, where before this season he played a total of 32 minor league innings in 2017. VanMeter at DH. VanMeter came up as a 2nd baseman.

Today we have Farmer at 1B, yes a much easier position than 2B, but he had a total of 35 minor league innings in 2017 and a handful of games with the Dodgers. Dietrich at DH. Dietrich has played a lot more 1B in his career, including about 30 games last year with Miami.

I just don't get it. Are we so in love with Farmer's bat that we're trying to make him into a super utility guy by playing him at positions he's barely played before?

I’ve always been on Winkers side and am even more so now. He should be playing every single day.
But to defend the others, they were saying that before Kemp, aschebler, and Puig all **** down their leg. They probably also thought we would actually contend

Peraza seemed almost out of the baseline going into third. He seemed to be running to the fielder, not the bag.

He might have been safe if he ran more directly to the bag.

Very odd play, should have just stuck at second.

wvreds
05-09-2019, 04:50 PM
So are Day and Welsh gonna ignore the fact that if Peraza utilized the little league teaching of follow your base coach, and not keep turning around lookin at the ball, that he would’ve been safe? Guess so.

mhs95_06
05-09-2019, 04:50 PM
Peraza was committed to going into the outside wide of 3B when he was still 40' out from 3B. If he correctly takes a path straight to the base, then he has the option to slide into the base from the outside or inside, depending where the throw goes. In this case the throw was way to the outside and when fielded cleanly, he was "dead meat".

Safe at third or stopped at second if the coach gave the stop sign.

I admire his aggressiveness, but not his base running there.

These Reds baserunners somehow seem to feel a need to get to 3B with 2 outs. Is it because they don't think they have enough speed to score on a two out single, or they have lower confidence in their teammates getting a 2 out hit to the OF than they have of stealing a base and the throw going wild?

Marty and Cowboy’s discussion of how the seagulls know it’s the 9th inning has been a classic.

Not much wrong with the Reds pitching so far this season. You have to happy with that.

Base running is just awful. That has a lot to do with the poor record too. You can't keep running yourself into outs and expect to win close games. Reds were lucky in this one to get away with a number of base running blunders.

I would have left Roark in to at least start the 7th. But they got away with it, so I won't complain. The bullpen was great today.

Win two of three across the bay and this 29 game stretch of mostly road games will turn out about as well as you could hope.
